was founded by Marilyn V. Mabry in late 1996 when Huntsville/Madison County were invited to apply for funds to meet the needs of single homeless women in a program sponsored by the Better Homes Foundation and United Way. The application was funded and the program operated successfully for several years. The program then was on hiatus for a few years. In the summer of 2010 the program was revived. TODAY, 2012
In February of 2011, NEW FUTURES began to renovate one of the buildings on the former Harris Home for Children site into a homeless shelter. Ten local churches and a women’s club volunteered to do the work and pay for the renovations. The April 27 tornadoes and the untimely death of then New Futures CEO, Marilyn Mabry, resulted in serious set-backs. Despite such hardship and with the help of the City of Huntsville and the Harris Foundation, the shelter finally began operation on October 1, 2011. NEW FUTURES has a new Board of Directors comprised of productive, insightful professionals who are dedicated to alleviating the RISING NEED of homelessness in Huntsville and Madison County Alabama. We are excited to be a part of making the vision of NEW FUTURES, Inc. OUR DIRECTION
The vision of New Futures, Inc. is to build a two-story community facility that provides housing for homeless families and resources for low income families including healthcare and dentistry; daycare; mental health services, nutrition and education.

Found this today and just felt it was worth sharing. This group’s second chance housing, focused on support for those in the judicial system, is something that led me to believe we could find landlords who would work with our families.

The truth is though that we can’t do it for everyone. Not everyone will be successful. We have lots of families really thriving in our program right now and it is amazing to see the progress they are making. Unfortunately, we have also had some families fail recently and that is heartbreaking. But their failure will not stop us from continuing to help those who want to do the work.

We will always keep showing up for those who are putting in the effort, but we can’t do it for anyone not willing to put in the work.

This year has gone by so quickly! If you are looking for ways to share the holiday spirit with homeless families, we are here to coordinate your gifts now. We welcome the opportunity to schedule volunteers to come in to provide community dinners, create memories with the kids through craft parties (ornament making, cookie decorating, etc.), or drop off donations of gifts to help fill Santa’s bags or even stock the shelter’s supply closets. 🎁The Giving Machine is returning to Bridge Street Town Centre November 17th - December 7th, with a soft launch on Nov. 17 and a ribbon-cutting at 5 pm on Nov. 18th!

✨Operating hours will be the same as Bridge Street’s.

New Futures just spent a little over a week with only one washing machine, as we awaited a part. I know how hard it made things for our families in shelter… so I wanted to share this post. If you have a couple free hours over the next few days, please consider helping GHHS with a some loads of laundry. The animals can’t drive to the laundromat- our friends need our support 🐈🐕‍🦺

Gabe, this handsome fellow, is joining the team at GHHS to beg and plead for laundry help!

Yes, we did get a new, commercial grade washer and dryer last year. But…
We run our sets to death with all the laundry. And now…we are waiting on a part u til NEXT Friday 🫪😩

What we need:

1. YOU! If you wouldn’t mind washing in your home laundry room (we have been doing it for days!), all you need to do it stop by and pick up a bag or two, and return it when washed and dried!

2. Get a team of advocates together and make a date at the laundromat, allowing multiple loads to get done at once.

All loads need detergent and disinfecting (this is improtant!) bleach! We do have some to share, if needed!
