🚨Cold Weather Fire Prevention Information🚨

As colder weather moves in and temperatures begin to drop, the Knox Creek Fire Department wants to share important information and safety tips to help protect our community and loved ones from the devastating and dangerous effects that a house fire brings with it.

🥶 When it comes to plugging in heaters, whether they are big or small, it is ALWAYS recommended and safer to plug them directly into the wall and not into an extension cord or power strip. These can easily overheat and cause an electrical fire inside your home.

🥶If you leave your home, even if you're just heading down the road, we recommend that you turn off and unplug your heaters when no one is around to watch them.

🥶Make sure nothing is placed on top of your heater or within three feet in front of it. This helps reduce the risk of nearby items overheating and catching fire.

🥶We strongly suggest having tested and up to date smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in the areas where you and your family spend the most time. This includes living rooms, bedrooms, and game/toy rooms.

We also recommend having a fire escape plan for your family and loved ones in case you get separated during a fire. It is always best to stay low during a fire and to know the closest and fastest way out. NEVER stand up during a fire if at all possible this is one of the worst things someone can do when trying to escape a house fire due to the toxic gases that come with it. We hope that this winter our community members continue to take their safety and their loved ones safety seriously and we also want to see our community members do their own research so they can better keep their family safe!

We hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!!

🚨Tree Down🚨

UPDATE: Road is back open! We would like to thank our Dispatch along with VDOT, Verizon and AEP for all their hard work to get the road back open for our community.

Knox Creek Fire Department is currently on scene of a tree down on Lester’s fork road. We would like all community members to find and alternate route for the time being while we clear the road and open up both lanes. We are happy to advise once the roads are open and clear.

HELP US PRESERVE OUR HISTORY!

Knox Creek Volunteer Fire Department is working to preserve and document the history of our department, and we’re asking for help from our community.

We are looking for old photographs, newspaper clippings, documents, stories, or memorabilia related to Knox Creek Fire Department — the older, the better!

We would especially love to find:
• Photos of old fire trucks and equipment
• Pictures of past members and firefighters
• Photos of the old station or department buildings

• Newspaper articles or clippings
• Old uniforms, patches, badges, helmets, or other department memorabilia
• Stories and memories from former members, their families, and members of our community

If you or someone in your family has anything connected to the history of Knox Creek Fire Department, please reach out to us or share it in the comments. Original items do not have to be donated — we would be happy to photograph or scan them so they can remain with your family.

Some of these memories may exist only in old photo albums, boxes, or family collections. With the community’s help, we hope to preserve them before they are lost to time.

Help us tell the story of the firefighters and community members who built Knox Creek Fire Department into what it is today.

Knox Creek Volunteer Fire Department is proud to recognize several of our members who recently attended the Wise Regional Fire School and Pike County Fire School.

Fire and EMS training never stops. These regional schools give our members the opportunity to learn new skills, strengthen existing ones, and bring valuable knowledge back home to share with the rest of our department.

Representing Knox Creek were:

Chief Brian Dotson
Assistant Chief Zachary Dotson
Engineer Jimmy Hill
Firefighter/EMT Wesley Harris
Firefighter/EMT Katelyn Stuhlemmer
Firefighter Trainee Hunter Sullivan

Our members participated in training covering:

EVOC Train-the-Trainer
Hazardous Materials Train-the-Trainer
Low-Angle Rope Rescue
Drone Operations for Emergency Services

The knowledge gained from these courses doesn't stop with the members who attended. Train-the-Trainer programs allow our personnel to bring that knowledge back to Knox Creek and help strengthen the capabilities of our entire department.

From safely operating emergency vehicles and responding to hazardous materials incidents to technical rescue and the growing use of drones during emergency operations, each of these skills helps us become a safer, stronger, and more capable department.

We greatly appreciate our members for taking time away from their families and personal lives to continue their education and improve their abilities as emergency responders.

Every hour spent training today helps us be better prepared for the call tomorrow.

We are proud of our members, proud of the progress our department continues to make, and proud to serve the citizens of Knox District and our surrounding communities.

🚒🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — 9/11/2001🇺🇸🚒

25 years later, we continue to remember the men and women who ran toward danger while others were running away.

Today, the Knox Creek Fire Department honors the fallen firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, military members, and civilians whose lives were lost on September 11th.

Their bravery reminds us of the true meaning of service and sacrifice.

Gone, but never forgotten.
Always remembered.
