๐Ÿ”ฅ LARGE FIELD FIRE RESPONSE ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Today, Husser Fire Department responded to a large field fire just south of Highway 16.

๐Ÿš’ Husser Fire responded with:
โ€ข 2 tankers
โ€ข 3 service trucks
โ€ข 1 engine
โ€ข 11 personnel

We would like to extend our appreciation to Wilmer Fire Department for providing additional manpower and a service truck, Louisiana State Police for assisting with traffic control, and Louisiana Forestry for responding and assisting with the incident.

The fire has been contained, and crews continue to monitor hay bales that remain burning within the already-burned portion of the field.

With the extremely dry conditions and wind, this incident had the potential to become much more serious. Thanks to a quick response, adequate resources, and multiple agencies working together, no lives were lost, no structures were damaged, and the fire was prevented from spreading into the surrounding woods.

โš ๏ธ BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT โš ๏ธ

Husser Fire would like to remind everyone that we are still under a burn ban. Conditions remain very dry, and wind can cause a small fire to spread rapidly and become uncontrollable.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Please do not burn.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Use extreme caution with anything that could produce a spark or flame.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Help us protect our homes, property, woods, and community.

One spark is all it takes. Please take the burn ban seriously.

๐Ÿ”ฅ TRAINING NIGHT AT HUSSER FIRE! ๐Ÿš’

Last night, members of Husser Fire Department trained on the MAX Fire Box, gaining valuable hands-on experience in understanding fire behavior and recognizing dangerous conditions inside a burning structure.

The MAX Fire Box teaches firefighters how fire develops and spreads, how heat and smoke move, and how to recognize warning signs of flashover, rollover, and other dangerous fire conditions. It also demonstrates how ventilation and airflow can affect fire behavior and impact firefighter safety.

This type of training helps our firefighters better understand what a fire is doing, recognize changing conditions, and make informed decisions on the fireground.

At Husser Fire, we are committed to continuous training and preparing our members to serve our community safely and effectively.

Train hard. Stay ready. Serve our community. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿšซ BURN BAN IN EFFECT โ€” TANGIPAHOA PARISH ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Effective immediately, Tangipahoa Parish is under a parish-wide burn ban due to extremely dry conditions and an increased risk of fire.

At the request of local fire chiefs, Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller has issued the burn ban, which will remain in effect until officially rescinded.

๐Ÿšซ The burn ban includes all open residential and commercial burning.

This includes:
โ€ข Burning leaves, limbs, brush or yard debris
โ€ข Trash or debris burning
โ€ข Open residential burning
โ€ข Open commercial burning

๐Ÿ”ฅ Barbecue pits, grills and fire pits are not included in the ban; however, EXTREME CAUTION is strongly encouraged when using them.

With vegetation and ground conditions extremely dry, a small fire can quickly spread and become difficult to control. Please help protect our homes, property, firefighters and community by DOING YOUR PART โ€” DONโ€™T BURN.

Please share and help us spread the word.

๐Ÿ”ฅ WOODS/FIELD FIRE RESPONSE ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Husser Fire Department responded to a woods/field fire today under strong and challenging wind conditions.

With assistance from Wilmer Fire Department, who provided a third service truck to the scene, crews were able to quickly attack the fire and bring it under control before it could spread further.

๐Ÿš’ We greatly appreciate Wilmer Fire for the manpower and mutual aid!

โš ๏ธ FIRE SAFETY REMINDER:
With strong winds occurring today, we urge everyone to avoid outdoor burning. Even a small fire can quickly become uncontrollable when winds carry flames, sparks, and embers into surrounding grass, fields, or wooded areas.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Stay alert. Burn responsibly. Protect your property and your neighbors.

๐Ÿ”ฅ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026๐Ÿ”ฅ
๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ”‹ STORE SAFELY AT HOME

Weโ€™ve talked about buying, charging, recognizing warning signs, and recycling lithium-ion batteries. Today, weโ€™re focusing on another important part of battery safety: how you store them.

Lithium-ion batteries are found throughout our homesโ€”from power tools and electronics to toys and portable chargers. Proper storage can help prevent batteries from becoming damaged, overheating, or creating a fire hazard.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ KEEP THEM COOL โ€” Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from extreme heat, direct sunlight, and excessive moisture.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ PROTECT THEM FROM DAMAGE โ€” Avoid crushing, puncturing, dropping, or otherwise damaging batteries. Store loose batteries where their terminals cannot contact metal objects.

๐Ÿ”ฅ KEEP THEM AWAY FROM COMBUSTIBLES โ€” Donโ€™t store batteries next to bedding, clothing, paper, flammable liquids, or other materials that can easily burn.

๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿพ KEEP THEM OUT OF REACH โ€” Batteries and battery-powered devices should be stored safely away from young children and pets.

๐Ÿ” CHECK THEM REGULARLY โ€” Watch for swelling, leaking, corrosion, unusual odors, discoloration, or other damage. If something doesnโ€™t look right, stop using the battery.

โš ๏ธ And remember: never use or charge a battery that is swollen, damaged, or showing other warning signs.

A little prevention goes a long way when protecting the people and places that matter most. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ”ฅ STORE SMART. PREVENT FIRES. PROTECT WHAT MATTERS MOST.

โ™ป๏ธ RECYCLE THE RIGHT WAY โ€” KEEP LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES OUT OF THE TRASH! ๐Ÿ”‹

We use lithium-ion batteries every day, but when their job is done, where they go matters.

Lithium-ion batteries should NEVER be placed in household trash or regular recycling bins. When crushed or damaged during garbage collection and processing, these batteries can overheat, ignite, and cause dangerous fires in garbage trucks and recycling facilities.

โ™ป๏ธ Dispose of batteries safely:

๐Ÿšซ DONโ€™T THROW THEM AWAY โ€” Keep lithium-ion batteries out of household garbage and regular recycling.

๐Ÿ“ USE A DESIGNATED COLLECTION LOCATION โ€” Take used batteries to an approved battery recycling or collection site.

๐Ÿฉน COVER THE TERMINALS โ€” Before transporting loose batteries, cover the terminals with non-conductive tape or place each battery in a separate plastic bag to help prevent short circuits.

โš ๏ธ DAMAGED BATTERIES NEED SPECIAL CARE โ€” Swollen, leaking, recalled, or damaged batteries may require different disposal procedures. Contact your local waste or recycling authority for guidance.

๐Ÿ”ฅ One improperly discarded battery can start a fire. Dispose of it the right way.

โ™ป๏ธ RECYCLE TODAY FOR A SAFER TOMORROW.

โš ๏ธ KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS โš ๏ธ

Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere in our homes, and when a battery begins to fail, it can become a serious fire hazard. Knowing the warning signs could help prevent a fire before it starts.

๐Ÿ”‹ STOP using a battery or device if you notice:

๐ŸŒก๏ธ Excessive heat โ€” The battery or device becomes unusually hot.
โš ๏ธ Swelling โ€” The battery looks puffed, bloated, or changes shape.
๐Ÿ’ง Leaking โ€” Fluid is coming from the battery.
๐Ÿ‘ƒ Unusual odors โ€” You notice a strange or chemical smell.
๐Ÿ‘‚ Unusual noises โ€” Hissing, popping, or crackling sounds.
๐Ÿ’ฅ Damage or discoloration โ€” Cracks, dents, burns, or other visible damage.

โ— Donโ€™t ignore these signs. Stop using the device and unplug it from power if it is safe to do so.

If a lithium-ion battery begins smoking or catches fire, get everyone out of the building, stay out, and call 911. ๐Ÿš’

A small battery can create a big emergency. Recognize the signs before it becomes a fire.

โšก CHARGE SAFELY AT HOME ๐Ÿ”‹

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the things we use every day: phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, toys, portable chargers, and more. But how and where you charge them matters.

For Day 2 of Fire Prevention Week, Husser Volunteer Fire Department wants everyone to remember a few simple charging habits:

๐Ÿ”Œ Use the right charger. Use the charger that came with your device or one specifically approved by the manufacturer.

๐Ÿ“– Follow the manufacturerโ€™s instructions for charging and storage.

๐Ÿ  Charge on a hard, flat surface. Never charge devices on beds, couches, pillows, or other soft, combustible surfaces.

โฑ๏ธ Unplug when charging is complete. Avoid leaving devices charging unattended for long periods.

โš ๏ธ Know the warning signs. Stop using a battery if you notice swelling, leaking, unusual odors or noises, excessive heat, or a change in shape or color.

๐Ÿ”ฅ A lithium-ion battery fire can develop quickly. If a battery begins smoking or catches fire, get everyone out, stay out, and call 911.

CHARGE SMART. PREVENT FIRES. PROTECT YOUR HOME.
