Pennsylvania's statewide median EMS transport time from scene to hospital was 40.1 minutes in 2024. Across many rural counties, the journey was longer.

Two recent Center studies help tell the broader story. Our research on rural emergency response examines the systems and people responsible for answering calls and getting help to residents, while our rural health care research explores the workforce, services, and access challenges facing rural communities.

Together, they show why rural emergency care is about more than any one part of the system — it extends from the initial call for help through the patient's arrival at care.

This hands-on class is perfect for parents, grandparents, coaches, teachers, babysitters, business owners, and anyone who wants to be prepared when seconds matter.

This event is made possible through a partnership between the Ellerslie Volunteer Fire Company, Ellerslie Citizens Committee, and the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services.

Meet Bedford County’s Comprehensive Victim Advocates

When you call Your Safe Haven, you’re reaching real people in your community.

Together, we provide 24/7/365 crisis response to Bedford County’s approximately 50,000 residents, offering free and confidential advocacy for individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes.
