Tonight, following our monthly meeting, we had the honor of welcoming Matt Chesney from the Baltimore County Fire Department. Mr. Chesney joined us to share his personal experience surviving a flashover incident this past February.

A flashover is the rapid, near-simultaneous ignition of all combustible gases and materials within an enclosed space—marking a critical shift from a localized fire to a fully involved conflagration reaching temperatures over 1,000° fahrenheit.

During his presentation, "In a Flash: The Importance of Expecting the Unexpected," he walked us through how flashovers occur, key warning signs to watch for, and vital safety takeaways.

Thank you, Matt, for taking the time to educate our members on this dangerous phenomenon. We greatly appreciate your hard work, dedication, and commitment to firefighter safety—and we are incredibly grateful for your full recovery!
