Due to continued misinformation being circulated regarding the Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Center (DVSAC), specifically concerning alleged funding losses and reductions in services, DVSAC wants the public to know these claims are false.
There has been no reduction in funding or victim services. All services remain available within our community, and DVSAC staff continue traveling to rural and surrounding areas to provide specialized support services.
DVSAC is a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and a stand-alone, community-based program serving primarily Bonneville County and the Idaho Falls area, while also providing direct and supportive services throughout Eastern Idaho and neighboring rural communities.
For 47 years, DVSAC has provided comprehensive services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, stalking, human trafficking, and other violent crimes. Services are available to children, adolescents, and adults and are designed to provide both immediate crisis intervention and long-term support.
Core services include a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, safety planning for individuals and families in imminent danger, forensic examinations and forensic interviews, victim advocacy, court accompaniment, assistance with civil protection orders, case management, counseling, and survivor support groups.
DVSAC also assists victims of violent crime who qualify for specialized immigration VISAs, housing support, legal advocacy, referrals to community resources, transportation assistance, and services for incarcerated survivors.
In addition to direct victim services, DVSAC engages in systems advocacy, which addresses barriers, policies, procedures, and institutional practices impacting victims and survivors of violence. Systems advocacy focuses on improving how organizations and community systems respond to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, and other violent crimes.
This work can include collaboration with law enforcement, prosecutors, courts, hospitals, schools, child protection agencies, and other community partners to strengthen coordinated responses and improve victim safety and access to services.
DVSAC participates in multidisciplinary teams (MDTs), assists in developing response protocols, provides professional training on victim-centered practices, identifies service gaps, and advocates for policy and procedural improvements that reduce trauma and increase offender accountability.
The goal of systems advocacy is to create sustainable improvements within community and governmental systems so that survivors receive timely, informed, and compassionate support as they navigate complex legal, medical, and social service systems.
DVSAC also provides prevention education, community outreach, and public awareness programming focused on reducing violence and increasing community safety. All services are provided free of charge and are available in both English and Spanish, regardless of income or background.

Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
Grab your favorite denim and join DVSAC as we show our support for survivors of sexual assault tomorrow.
Denim Day 2026 is on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, serving as an annual international protest against victim-blaming and a show of support for survivors of sexual assault. Participants are encouraged to wear jeans to challenge harmful myths surrounding sexual violence, a movement sparked by a 1990s Italian court ruling.
The Story: The campaign began after an Italian Supreme Court overturned a r**e conviction in the 1990s, arguing that because the victim wore tight jeans, she must have helped the attacker, implying consent.
The Protest: Women in the Italian Parliament protested by wearing jeans to work, leading to the international movement officially organized in the U.S. by Peace Over Violence.
Significance: It is held during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April) to protest that what someone wears is never an invitation or justification for sexual violence.
