🌿 Honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day 🌿

Today, Hilltop Middle School honors and celebrates the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples, both past and present.

We recognize the Indigenous communities who have cared for this land for generations, including the Chinook people whose history and heritage are deeply rooted in our local area.

At Hilltop, we believe that learning about and honoring diverse cultures helps us grow into a more respectful, inclusive, and compassionate community.

Today and every day, we celebrate Indigenous voices, acknowledge their lasting contributions, and recognize the importance of preserving their stories, languages, and traditions.

💚 Together, we learn from the past, honor the present, and grow toward a better future.

Today, September 11, we pause to remember the events that took place 25 years ago, in 2001. None of our Hilltop students were alive then, but many of your parents, grandparents, teachers, and other adults in your lives remember that day very clearly. It was a sad and frightening time, and many lives were lost in New York City, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

While September 11 was a tragic day in our nation’s history, it also showed us the power of courage, kindness, service, and unity. In the days and weeks that followed, people across the country and around the world reached out to support one another. Firefighters, police officers, first responders, and everyday citizens risked their own safety to help others. Communities came together, neighbors cared for neighbors, and many people chose to serve and protect others.

There are important lessons we can continue to carry with us today:

* Show kindness and compassion to those around you.
* Have the courage to do what is right, even when it is difficult.
* Respect others, even when we have differences.
* Look for ways to help and serve others.
* Remember the importance of coming together as a community.

As you hear more about September 11 today, I encourage you to think about these lessons and about the ways each of us can make our school and community a kinder, safer, and more caring place.

If you have questions, I encourage you to talk with your parents, teachers, or another trusted adult.

Today, we remember those who were lost, honor those who served and helped others, and continue to choose kindness, courage, and unity here at Hilltop.

What a beautiful morning for our Hope Walk! 💜🩵

Thank you to our students, families, staff, and community members who joined us today to walk together in support of su***de prevention awareness. Seeing so many people wearing teal and purple, carrying messages of hope, and showing up for one another was incredibly meaningful.

A special thank you to Peninsula Su***de Education Alliance for the T-shirts and swag, and to Travis Krueger from Willapa Behavioral Health for helping our students learn more about mental health, recognizing signs of distress, and the importance of reaching out for support.

Today was a wonderful reminder that connection matters, kindness matters, and every person deserves to know:

You belong here. You matter. There is hope.

Thank you for making this morning so special. 💜🩵

💜🩵 HOPE WALK TOMORROW! 🩵💜

Join us tomorrow morning, Thursday, September 10 from 7:30–8:20 a.m., beginning at Ilwaco High School for our annual Hope Walk in support of su***de prevention awareness.

We invite students, families, and community members to walk with us and help spread the message:

YOU BELONG HERE.

All students are encouraged to wear teal and purple tomorrow. We also distributed Hope Walk T-shirts to students who wanted one.

A huge thank you to Travis Krueger from Willapa Behavioral Health for leading our students through a mental health learning Zoom focused on recognizing signs of distress and knowing when and how to reach out for help.

We are also so grateful to the Peninsula Su***de Education Alliance for providing T-shirts and prevention swag for our students and community.

If you can’t join us for the walk, you can still show your support by wearing teal and purple tomorrow. 💜🩵

Hope walks here. You belong here.
