Yesterday, your Imperial County Firefighters responded to a report of a semi fire along Westbound Interstate 8, West of Ocotillo. Imperial County Fire Engine 7 and Engine 4 responded.

Mutual aid was requested from neighboring Departments including Centinela State Prison Fire and Cal Fire.

🚒 Engine 13 has officially reached 100,000 miles.

That milestone represents years of emergency responses, long hours of operation, and service throughout Imperial County.

It also highlights an important reality facing the fire service: replacing a fire engine takes years of planning.

If a new engine were ordered today, delivery could still take around three years or longer, depending on the manufacturer and specifications. At the same time, the cost of new fire apparatus has increased significantly.

That means we can’t wait until an engine is no longer reliable before beginning the replacement process.

Apparatus replacement requires advance planning, funding, manufacturing, inspections, delivery, outfitting, and training before a new engine is ready to respond.

Measure S can help provide the long-term funding needed to address aging fire apparatus, equipment, stations, maintenance, and other public safety needs.

Engine 13 hitting 100,000 miles is a reminder that keeping reliable emergency equipment in service requires planning for the future today.

Measure S is about investing in public safety while keeping accountability at the forefront.
Measure S would create a dedicated Public Safety Fund supported by a ½-cent countywide sales tax — not an additional property tax. That means residents, visitors, tourists, and people traveling through Imperial County who make taxable purchases here all help contribute to the public safety system that serves them.
The measure also includes important safeguards, including a 7-member Citizens’ Oversight Committee, public review of revenues and expenditures, independent annual audits, and annual reporting to the Board of Supervisors.
For the Fire Department, Measure S specifically identifies funding for fire stations, apparatus, equipment, supplies, maintenance, and several station projects throughout Imperial County.
Public safety affects all of us, and this measure provides a way to invest in the firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement officers, facilities, and equipment our communities depend on every day.

STAFFING UPDATE | SEPTEMBER 2026

Progress is being made, but there is still work to be done.

We want to provide our community with an update on the ongoing efforts to strengthen staffing within the Imperial County Fire Department.

We are pleased to share that one new Fire Engineer joined the department last week, with additional personnel currently moving through the hiring and onboarding process.

Current Staffing & Recruitment Progress:

1 Fire Engineer started last week.
2 Fire Engineers are currently in the onboarding process.
6 Reserve Firefighters are currently in the onboarding process.
1 additional Reserve Firefighter is currently in the hiring process.

Upcoming Recruitment Opportunities:

Two additional Fire Engineer positions are awaiting authorization to begin the recruitment process.

Additional Reserve Firefighter positions will also need to be filled as personnel are promoted and the department continues working to address existing vacancies.

These are important steps toward rebuilding our staffing levels and strengthening our ability to serve the residents of Imperial County.

While we are encouraged by this progress, our department continues to face staffing challenges. Hiring new personnel takes time, and filling existing vacancies remains essential to maintaining adequate staffing at our fire stations.

Our firefighters remain committed to providing the highest level of service possible to our communities.

We appreciate the continued support of our community and will continue to provide updates as additional personnel join our ranks.

Fire Engineer Jin Park,

The Imperial County Firefighters Association would like to thank you for your service and commitment to the people of the Imperial County over the last 4 years.

Fire Engineer Park came to the ICFD straight from the Imperial Valley College Fire Academy, and worked around various stations across our County. His last assignment was at ST7 in Seeley.

Park was often known to be a quiet guy, but his actions spoke volumes and left a lasting impression among the brothers and sister of the ICFA.

We wish you the very best in all that you set out to accomplish.

The Imperial County Firefighters Association is proud to endorse Patricia Lizarraga for Imperial County Supervisor, District 5.

Patricia brings 25 years of experience serving the County of Imperial as an Auditor, with a career focused on accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of public funds.

At a time when our County faces important decisions about how limited resources are prioritized, we believe experience matters. Our communities deserve leaders who understand County finances, value transparency, and recognize that responsible budgeting includes investing in the essential services our residents depend on.

We believe Patricia brings that experience and commitment to the Board of Supervisors, and we are proud to stand with her for District 5.

We thank you for your service, and honor your dedication to the call to serve.

This Labor Day, we recognize the work behind the uniform.

Imperial County firefighters continue to answer the call—not only here at home, but across California.

Our members are currently on our third crew rotation assisting the State of California on a strike team, with each crew committing to a 14-day assignment away from home and their families to help protect communities threatened by wildfire.

We know the importance and value of the service we provide. Whether responding to an emergency in Imperial County or deploying hundreds of miles away to assist another community, our firefighters continue to do their part.

When firefighters deploy to assist the state, the responsibility to protect Imperial County doesn’t disappear. Our stations still need to be staffed. Our engines still need crews. And when someone calls 911, firefighters still need to be available to answer.

We are proud to serve Imperial County and the State of California, and we will continue advocating for the staffing and resources necessary to provide the level of service our communities deserve.

This Labor Day, we thank our firefighters and all working men and women for the work they do every day.
