For the last few years, CCPL has worked to bring making opportunities to our branches. Rather than dedicating one makerspace, we have chosen to offer opportunities for digital and physical creation across our locations. We firmly agree with ALA’s statement on the importance of making. “Making means learning through trial and error, through practical application, and through hands-on experience in a social environment. Making means giving access to communities to grow and create something better.”
The White House has declared June 12th – 18th, 2015 the National Week of Making. To support the White House’s initiative, CCPL and our partner organizations across Northeast Ohio hosted free maker activities for the public during an Hour of Making on June 13th from 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Customers at CCPL branches including the Independence branch were able to make a LED bookmark during that hour. (and even a little bit later!)
