Have you been curious about what our officers have been up to all month? The Independence Police Department shares a sample of monthly calls for service to inform and educate community members about the work we do.

In September 2026, officers engaged in 851 activities. These included 28 arrests (adults and juveniles), 22 welfare checks, 11 domestic disturbances, 3 hit-and-run crashes, 8 emotional health calls, and 56 suspicious activity/person/vehicle calls. The activities listed above represent just a portion of the calls to which officers respond. Other incidents may include resident contact calls, tows, attempts to locate, assistance to other agencies, crashes, and other service requests.

SEPTEMBER 2026
-An officer observed a driver texting while driving near Ash Creek Elementary School. The driver was found to have a suspended license and no insurance and was unable to provide identification. The driver was cited for driving while suspended, driving without insurance, and cellphone use, and the vehicle was towed.

-Officers responded to a physical altercation that began after a minor vehicle crash. Two men exchanged words before one kicked the other in the stomach, and the two then fought until bystanders broke up the altercation. Neither person was injured or wanted to pursue charges.

-Officers responded to a report of a woman screaming and throwing items. She was experiencing a panic attack and reported struggling with her mental health. She also reported that her medications had been flushed down the toilet and that the father of her two-month-old child had taken the child and left without a car seat. Officers contacted the man at his parents’ home and learned he was under a no-contact condition with the woman. He reported concerns about threats she had made toward herself and the child. The man was taken into custody at the request of his probation officer, and the woman was transported for an evaluation.

-Officers arrested an individual on two counts of physical harassment following an alcohol-related disturbance involving family members. The individual had reportedly started a physical altercation with his sister, her boyfriend, and a 14-year-old family member. Child welfare authorities were contacted regarding the juvenile.

-Multiple residents reported seeing a vehicle traveling approximately 60 to 70 mph through their neighborhood. Officers were familiar with the vehicle due to previous traffic complaints and reports of excessive engine revving. Officers contacted the vehicle’s owner, who received a criminal citation for reckless driving.

-Officers investigated repeated reports of a man screaming obscenities and loudly banging on metal at a residence. Officers made several attempts to speak with the man and have him come outside peacefully. Several days later, officers located him riding a bicycle and took him into custody on two counts of Escape III and Disorderly Conduct II.

-Officers responded to a domestic dispute that became physical. The victim reported being struck by items thrown during the argument and suffered a split lip. The suspect was transported to jail on charges of physical harassment and misdemeanor Assault IV.

-A woman reported leaving her purse at a local restaurant. Security footage showed a child picking up the purse before leaving with a parent. Officers later contacted the parent, who produced the victim’s identification, purse, wallet, and bracelet. Officers cited the individual for Theft II.

-Officers arrested an individual for misdemeanor Assault IV following an argument with a domestic partner. The individual was accused of slamming the victim into a counter during the altercation.

Have you been curious about what our officers have been up to all month? The Independence Police Department shares a sample of monthly calls for service to inform and educate community members about the work we do.

In August 2026, officers engaged in 895 activities. These included 32 arrests (adults and juveniles), 13 welfare checks, 16 domestic disturbances, 6 hit-and-run crashes, 18 emotional health calls, and 68 suspicious activity/person/vehicle calls. The activities listed above represent just a portion of the calls to which officers respond. Other incidents may include resident contact calls, tows, attempts to locate, assistance to other agencies, crashes, and other service requests.

AUGUST 2026
-Officers responded to a business where an intoxicated customer was refusing to leave, yelling at and threatening other customers, and threatening an employee. The individual also made statements that prompted medics to respond for an evaluation. After being cleared at the hospital, the individual was transported to jail.

-Officers identified a suspect in a shoplifting investigation through surveillance footage. The suspect was later stopped while driving and was taken into custody on theft and driving-related charges.

-Officers responded to a physical altercation between two men outside a residence. Both men sustained minor injuries during the incident and were criminally cited for physical harassment.

-Officers responded to a traffic crash where a vehicle had gone through a fence and struck a power pole, leaving wires across the roadway. The driver showed signs of impairment and later recorded a .16% blood alcohol content. The driver was arrested on charges including DUII, reckless driving, driving while suspended, and criminal mischief.

-A man arrived at a local hospital with a broken jaw and reported being assaulted by three people who had threatened to follow him to the hospital. The hospital was placed on lockdown as a precaution. Officers determined the assault had occurred earlier in the evening in front of a local business. Three suspects were identified, arrested, and booked into jail for assault.

-Officers followed up on concerning statements posted to a community social media page and subsequently learned of a domestic violence incident that had occurred several days earlier. The victim reported being struck and strangled and said her phone had been broken during the altercation, preventing her from calling for help. The suspect was charged with felony strangulation, physical harassment, coercion, and criminal mischief.

-A road rage incident between an electric scooter rider and a motorist resulted in multiple 911 calls after the scooter rider allegedly threatened to stab the motorist and continued yelling and making threats toward others nearby. Officers cited the individual for disorderly conduct.

-Officers and other agencies responded after a person experiencing a suspected drug overdose was found unconscious in a bathroom. Family members had to enter the room to get help. Narcan was administered and was effective. Child welfare authorities were notified, and officers encouraged the individual to seek medical care.

-Officers responded to a report of domestic violence and found the two people separated when they arrived. The victim reported that an argument throughout the day had become physical, including the suspect throwing a phone at her. The suspect then displayed a fi***rm, left it in the apartment, and drove away before officers arrived. The victim also reported multiple prior altercations. Officers determined there was probable cause for physical harassment, felony Assault IV, and interference with making a report. The suspect later met with an officer at the police department and was transported to jail.

-Officers contacted an individual reported to be walking on apartment porches. The person was found to have an outstanding warrant, and a pipe containing residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine was located during a search (pictured). The individual was transported to jail.
