Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff:
Grayson County Public Schools is aware of information and rumors circulating on social media regarding an incident involving a GCHS student.
We want to assure our students, families, staff, and community that the safety and well-being of our school community remain our highest priorities. School administrators and appropriate personnel have responded to the situation and are following established safety and student support procedures.
Because this matter involves a student, we are legally and ethically limited in the information we can share publicly. We cannot discuss a student’s private educational, medical, or personal information.
We ask our community not to rely on social media posts, speculation, or unverified information regarding this situation. Sharing inaccurate information can create unnecessary fear and concern among students, families, and staff.
To address some of the concerns circulating, we would like to clarify the following:
No students or staff were threatened during the incident yesterday. At this time, there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the school community. School resource officers conducted a thorough search, and no weapon was found. All students went through metal detectors yesterday, and no security breach occurred. No students were suspended for weapons violations. Students experiencing a crisis are not left alone by school employees or school resource officers. Appropriate supervision and support are provided for these students.
The school was not placed on lockdown, a three-minute hold was implemented as a precaution while the situation was addressed. Under GCPS policy, a student who causes a major disruption during the school day may be suspended up to 10 days with a possible referral to the discipline committee.
Grayson County Public Schools will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action if circumstances change. We appreciate the cooperation and support of our families and community as we work together to maintain a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for all students.
Sincerely,
Kelly B. Wilmore
GCPS Superintendent
