Flashback Friday - It's 1933 and we have a bird's eye view of the primitive road leading south to Sebastian Inlet. This road would eventually become State Road A1A. During this time, in the wake of the Great Depression, the inlet became even more vital to the area's survival. Subsistence fishing put food on the table for many local families, and commercial fishing was the lifeblood of the town of Sebastian. Please like or share if you would like us to continue Flashback Fridays. See more images at www.sitd.us/the-history-of-sebastian-inlet

Just a friendly reminder: Our free app includes a channel marker guide, links to boating safety courses and boating regulations, as well as real time wind and wave data. A feature also allows you to report damaged or missing channel markers within the inlet channel. Get it at your app store or go dowload using the QR code on our website at www.sitd.us

We're proud to have been part of the recent Coconut Point shoreline restoration project at Sebastian Inlet State Park! Our Dockside Builders team assisted with the installation of innovative Reef Arches designed to help protect the shoreline and support aquatic habitat in the Indian River Lagoon.

This collaborative restoration effort brings together the Ocean Research & Conservation Association (ORCA), Sebastian Inlet District, Florida State Parks, Reef Arches LLC, and MANG Consulting, with funding support from 11th Hour Racing.

We're grateful to contribute to projects that help protect and restore our local waterways! Support Conservation: www.teamorca.org

We rebuilt and improved 220 feet of the north jetty last year. In January (2027), the north jetty will be closed to public access when Phases 2 and 3 begin. The construction window requires the north jetty to remain closed through July 2028. Please visit our website at www.sitd.us or download our free app for project updates. Of course, we will post videos and photos here on social media throughout the life of the project. A Frequently Asked Questions post is in the comments section....

Flashback Friday - It's October 28, 1948, and the Sebastian Inlet District has finished dredging and reopening the inlet, which had been closed throughout World War II for national security reasons. You are looking west toward Coconut Point (on the inlet's south side) and the mainland (in the distance). See more images at www.sitd.us/the-history-of-sebastian-inlet

Sebastian Inlet low altitude aerials: May 2005 (top), August 2006 (bottom left), December 2007 (bottom center), and June 2010. We routinely routinely work with marine scientists to conduct biological monitoring of the critically important habitats surrounding the inlet that support a broad range of different species.
