April 2, 2024 – Character Development and Promotions. This was a great day for us. After character development, we had 14 cadets promoted to their next grade and one cadet that completed all her next promotions requirements early and I frocked her. I believe this is the most ever cadets we have formally promoted at one time.
Cadet Basics Simmons and Story were promoted to Cadet Airman. This is an important step as it shows their commitment to Civil Air Patrol, and is the first achievement of 16 in the cadet program. They are now eligible to go to Encampment, a week-long basic training for CAP Cadets, and also attain their General Emergency Services rating to assist CAP in its emergency services work.
We had six cadets promoted to Airman First Class. These cadets were Cadets Espiritu, Harris, McFarlane, Warnhoff, and both Washingtons. As Cadet Airman First Class they can serve as assistant element leader while polishing their skills in learning how to be an effective follower.
Cadets Airman First Class Duenas and Quiambao were promoted to Cadet Senior Airman. They can now be element leaders and can supervise subordinate cadets in their training.
Cadet Senior Airman Velasco was promoted to Cadet Staff Sergeant. This is a big step for him as it means he completed the Wright Brothers Milestone, the first of the five milestones in the cadet program and marks the completion of the first, or learning, phase of the cadet program. This grade required passing a difficult and comprehensive closed book test on leadership as well as drill performance. He is now a Non-Commissioned Officer in the leadership phase of the program and will take positions of greater responsibility.
Cadet Staff Sergeant Somera was promoted to Cadet Technical Sergeant. She is gaining more responsibility and will now be in leadership roles such as assistant flight sergeant.
Cadet Technical Sergeant Bartolome was promoted to Cadet Master Sergeant and is now a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer. He has proven he can take on more duties and responsibilities and is ready to be a flight sergeant. As a flight sergeant, he will be a leader, mentor and role model for the other members of his flight.
Cadets Senior Master Sergeants Batacan and Benitez were promoted to Cadet Chief Master Sergeant. This is the highest cadet enlisted grade in CAP and they are now one step away from being a cadet officer. They are now referred to as “Chief”, and with this promotion they can serve as the squadron’s First Sergeant and other cadet leadership positions.
Congratulations to these outstanding cadets.
