🏍️ A Simple Reminder: We All Share the Road

Every ride begins with a choice: to stay alert, focused, and respectful of others on the road.

Motorcyclists face unique challenges, including reduced visibility, changing road conditions, and the actions of other drivers. At the same time, everyone behind the wheel or handlebars benefits from patience, awareness, and good decision-making.

A few facts worth remembering: ✅ Look twice before changing lanes or turning. ✅ Leave extra following distance in all directions. ✅ Wear proper protective gear every ride. ✅ Stay distraction-free whether driving or riding. ✅ Expect the unexpected.

Road safety is not about who's right or wrong. It's about making sure everyone gets home safely.

What's one riding habit you've adopted that makes you feel safer on the road?

State Motorcycle Safety Association (SMSA) Chairperson Don Green, Ed.D. , represented the SMSA at the Motorcycle Safety Awareness Coalition meeting, sponsored by the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey (BIANJ), on October 6, 2026. The meeting, facilitated by Kate O'Connor, MPH, CHES, covered topics including their pledge programs, social media efforts, the State [Motorcycle Safety Foundation](https://msf-usa.org/) (MSF) Quality Assurance update, and the Rider Education Preparation Courses update.

Of note was the “Stop the Bleed Virtual Training” Presentation from Tracy Nerney BS, MMBA, RN, Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator - Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The overview was extremely thorough, quick, and relevant to Motorcycle Safety and Injury circumstances. Ms. Nerney noted an increase in E-Bike injuries among young children and emphasized that immediate on-scene care for injuries is increasingly important.

SMSA Member and MSF RiderCoach Trainer and Quality Assurance Specialist Bob Simpson provided a great update on New Jersey’s Quality Assurance, including confirming that compliance with New Jersey and Motorcycle Safety Foundation Standards was strong this year.

BIANJ is also hosting an E-Bike Safety Webinar on Wednesday, October 7th from 1:30-2:30 pm to explore e-bike safety from three important perspectives: Injury Prevention, Law Enforcement, and Advocacy. Those interested can register at: https://lnkd.in/gCbEP98K

We haven’t officially kicked off the Summit yet… but the work is already underway! 🏍️

Today’s pre-conference workshop is bringing motorcycle safety stakeholders from across the spectrum together for an interactive, hands-on experience.

Different perspectives. Different roles. One shared goal: finding better ways to make motorcycling safer.

The best ideas happen when we get in the room, break down the silos, and work together. And that’s exactly what’s happening here.

The Summit starts tomorrow, but the collaboration has already begun. 🤝🏍️
