School is back in session! Create a routine and your kids will be more successful. New schools and being unsure of what to expect might encourage poor behaviors. Talk about positive coping skills and make school a fun topic, even if it can be challenging for a lot of students. Remember to ask for LCPA and FCM or CASA for help in getting educational resources or assistance for these kiddos too.

It's the last day of National Foster Care month, and we just want to share our appreciation for all of the foster parents--past, current, and prospective foster parents. Being a foster parent takes a lot of heart, and some days can be more difficult than others, but know that you are making a difference in a child's life.
You matter. You are needed. You are appreciated. Thank you for helping kids in need.

When we think about Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, it will be impossible to achieve the middle and higher tier needs if the baseline needs (food, shelter, clothing, emotional support) are not being met. Often times, kids are expected to behave appropriately at all times, and it is impractical to expect those desired behaviors when their baseline needs are not being met. ‼️
For example, kids who worry about their next meal might not have their homework done or perhaps they have issues with taking food. Kids who are falling asleep at school might be having housing or safety issues that prevent them from sleeping at night. It's not that they don't care about their academics or that they are lazy. But, these kids likely cannot excel in their current environments. When you change the environment, the child begins to change. They become less defensive and reactive when they can believe that their needs are being met. Kids should be able to be kids, but a lot of kids need support. If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, please ask us how to get started.

Sometimes it can be difficult for a child to see past previous negative experiences that can shape their perspective. These kiddos need caring adults to help them reframe what they have experienced and learn that their past does not define their future. Can you be that caring adult? We can provide training that can help you best support their needs.
Foster parents are needed throughout the state of Indiana. Our kiddos need support. If you or someone you know is interested in being a foster parent, please contact us. We would love to help you help kids. If you can't be a foster parent, maybe you can volunteer or give back in another manner. A kind word goes a long way.

Can you pour love into a child? That's what foster care is all about. They need your support, your kind words, and your reassurance that they are loved and valued. We need foster parents in Indiana. Our kids need support. If you can lend some, we'd love to help you help kids.
