The annual Indiana Conference on Citizenship inspires and prepares Hoosiers to actively participate in our democracy and advocate for the wellbeing of our state and nation.

Yesterday we gathered with more than 100 friends at the Indiana State Museum to discuss the threat of misinformation to civic dialogue.
We were lucky to hear from John Gable from AllSides followed by an informative panel discussion with local media experts Tim Swarens, Arika Herron, Francesca Jarosz Brady, and Dr Paul Cook. Be on the lookout for more from Sagamore Institute on how we can build media literate citizens in the coming months.

Congratulations to former Sagamore board member Don Palmer on receiving the Sagamore of the Wabash award for his lifelong commitment to the betterment of Indiana. The Sagamore of the Wabash has been given by Indiana governors since 1942 to individuals who exemplify wisdom, public commitment, and a concern for the well-being of others. It was particularly special for Sagamore co-founder and former Indiana Senator Dan Coats to present the award.

Sagamore Institute is excited to welcome Jay Chaudhary to the team as Senior Fellow for Mental Health and Community Wellness. Chaudhary has served as director of the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction for the last 5 years, where he has championed significant improvements in mental health and addiction services including the nationally recognized rollout of the 988 Crisis and Su***de Lifeline.

“Sagamore is solutions oriented in its research and this new role - which will include figuring out how the public, private, academic and philanthropic sectors work together to promote thriving families, nurturing communities, and high-quality mental health care - is a natural extension of the Institute’s important work,” Chaudhary said.
Thank you to the Valinhos Foundation (Julie Veldman Harris) and Steve Simon for their support of this new position.
