We decided to tackle this mess of invasive oriental bittersweet vines (Celastrus orbiculatus) at Eagle Creek Park yesterday. This woody vine will strangle any plant in its path and smother native vegetation from the weight of its aerial stems.

We freed the affected trees by untwining vines and treated cut stumps. Check out the before and after!

A little rain never stopped anyone-- definitely not the momma snapping turtle ready to build her nest at Eagle Creek Ornithology Center yesterday!🐢

We also spotted Fire Pink (silene virginica) in bloom🌺

Thank you Strike Team volunteers— what a beautiful day! We worked around the bird sanctuary cutting back large autumn olive and bush honeysuckle. We hope to continue improving views of the water from the trail… until next month!

First W**d Wrangle of 2026✅

Thank you to everyone who came out Saturday for our second annual W**d Wrangle at Barton Park! Volunteers removed bush honeysuckle, wintercreeper, Norway maple, and garlic mustard. We made lots of progress opening up views of the water. It’s clear the community cares so deeply about this park😊 You guys put in the work!
