Today is Slam the Scam Day, a reminder to stay vigilant and aware of financial fraud.

Last night, our team partnered with Detective Gary Achor of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office to present a joint financial fraud prevention program and discuss common scam red flags.

Thank you to everyone who attended and took time to learn how to better protect themselves and their communities.

On Tuesday morning, Securities Commissioner Marie Castetter and Investor Education Coordinator Kendall Carnes participated in a roundtable discussion with U.S. Congressman Jefferson Shreve and community partners from Edward Jones, Greenfield Banking Company, and Hancock Health to address the growing impact of scams across Indiana.

During the discussion, our team shared updates from the Indiana Securities Division’s investor education and senior protection efforts. Senior Savings Protection reports have nearly doubled from 2024 to 2025—rising from 176 to 351 cases—and Hoosiers reported more than $25 million in losses last year through our office alone. These numbers underscore the urgent need for stronger consumer awareness and accessible fraud‑prevention education.

We appreciate the continued focus on coordinated, preventative strategies to combat scams. Education is a key part of protecting Hoosiers, and we value opportunities to collaborate with community partners who share that mission.

Thank you to Congressman Shreve and Detective Gary W. Achor for bringing stakeholders together to support efforts that help safeguard Hoosiers from financial fraud.
