In 2004, Dayspring started the Follow-Up Case Management Program.

Why? We noticed that when families left the shelter, something kept happening: without ongoing support, half returned within three months.

The Follow-Up Case Management Program was Dayspring’s answer. A case manager stays connected with each family for up to 12 months after they leave, providing individualized support such as intervening on evictions, unpaid utility bills, medical referrals, food pantry needs, transportation, and connections to community resources.

This program changed what Dayspring is. Before Follow-Up, Dayspring was a shelter. After it, Dayspring became something more. An organization that stays involved long after a family walks out the door. Real Impact.

Homelessness doesn't define a family. It's something a family is going through.

For 40 years, Dayspring has welcomed families, each with their own story and circumstances that brought them to our doors.

Who are the families arriving at Dayspring today? 60% are single mothers with two children under age five. Another 10% are single fathers with their children, and 30% are two-parent families with two or more children. Over half are working, yet their earnings fall below the poverty line.

Behind these numbers are parents doing their best to care for their children. Some have escaped domestic violence, experienced a serious illness, lost their home to a fire, or simply faced circumstances that made keeping a roof overhead impossible.

Throughout our history, Dayspring has provided a place where families can stay together, find stability, and begin building a brighter future. Every family has a different story. Each one deserves the chance for a more hopeful next chapter. 💛

Even though the event was cancelled due to incoming storms, we want to thank our community partner 💛 You are a true gift to our homeless families and our community. We'll see you soon!

We will be out at Cool Creek Park & Nature Center for Little Haunt on the Prairie this evening raising funds for Dayspring Center! We hope you'll stop by and see us. Plus, be sure to try a cup of our very own Ecto Cooler recipe. We may even have special cups available this year for that!

The Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention (CHIP) 2026 State of Homelessness Report reminds us that while progress is being made, hundreds of families with children are still experiencing homelessness in our community.

At Dayspring Center, we know that a safe place to sleep is just the beginning. Every day, we help parents find their footing, give children the care and encouragement they need to thrive, and support families as they work toward a stable, more hopeful future.

The numbers remind us how much work remains. The families remind us why it matters.

Stronger families make a stronger Indianapolis. And together, we can help make that possible.

At Dayspring Center, we offer more than shelter.

Our four core programs work together to support the whole family battling homelessness:
• Emergency Shelter, a safe place to land when there’s nowhere else to go
• Children’s Services, support that lets kids stay kids while their family gets back on its feet
• Food & Nutrition, because rebuilding starts with a full plate
• Follow Up Care, our support doesn’t end the day a family walks out the door

A warm meal has been part of Dayspring's story from the very beginning.

What began as a daily feeding program grew into a soup kitchen and overnight shelter in an Episcopal church basement in Indianapolis's Old Northside neighborhood.

Today, that same spirit of caring for our neighbors lives on in Dayspring's kitchen. Most families arrive at Dayspring experiencing food insecurity, often unsure where their next meal will come from. Here, they can count on nutritious meals, prepared with love and served with kindness.

Every month, "Mr. Roscoe" and his wonderful kitchen team, volunteers, and community partners prepare and serve more than 3,000 meals for the families in our care.

40 years of caring hearts, helping hands, and full tummies. We're still serving up the love! ❤️
