ATTENTION: The Portage license branch will be temporarily relocated to the Portage Public Library from Tuesday 10/20 to Thursday 10/22 while repairs are completed at the branch after recent water damage.

The branch's hours of operation will align with the library's:
Tuesday – Friday 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The temporary location will accept credit card payment only.

The Portage branch is expected to open for regular business on Friday 10/23, but updates will be posted should circumstances change.

The BMV Connect kiosk located at the Portage branch location is still accessible to customers while repairs are taking place.

A Mobile Registration Intake Center (MRIC) is open in Madison County today to assist Indiana disaster survivors. Representatives at this center will provide in-person assistance, answer questions and help homeowners and renters apply for FEMA’s Individual Assistance program.

Please join us in congratulating our own Kevin Orme, as he was recently presented with the Distinguished Hoosier Award by the Office of Governor Mike Braun!

Mr. Orme currently serves Executive Director of Construction Services for the Indiana Department of Correction, but began his career with the IDOC in 1990 as a correctional officer at Putnamville Correctional Facility.

Orme has held several roles throughout his career, including those in investigations, emergency squads, and safety management. He has served as a correctional sergeant, fire chief, safety manager, and physical plant director.

Orme is also a recipient of the Governor’s Meritorious Service Award, Indiana Sheriffs’ Public Servant of the Year Award, and other local and state honors.

Prior to joining the IDOC, he served in the United States Army and the Indiana National Guard. He holds numerous professional certifications, including Master Firefighter and nationally credentialed Fire Officer, and has served as a fire chief in his community for more than 25 years.

Recently, I launched the Substantial Damage Property Assistance Program to help local communities and property owners navigate recovery requirements following recent disasters.

Today, I am pleased to announce that the State of Indiana continues to cut costs for local communities.

The State will cover 75% of the remaining local share, meaning local governments will ultimately be responsible for just 6.25% of eligible project costs.

For questions about the process, property owners may call the Substantial Damage Property Assistance Line at 833-495-9888, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
