🔥 Fire pit nights are better without the ER visit.
Small pit, big potential for trouble if you get too casual. Keep it simple and safe:
• Outdoors only — 10 feet from anything that can burn

🔸 Flat, non-flammable surface (concrete, pavers, bricks)

🔸 Clear the area of trip hazards

🔸 Good lighting so no one stumbles

🔸 Away from decks, siding, trees, and overhangs

🔸 Use a screen to catch sparks

🔸 Dry seasoned hardwood only

🔸 Kids & pets 3+ feet back

🔸 Chairs farther out — adults model the distance

• Fully out, ashes completely cold, then metal can with tight lid
The “it’s small so it’s fine” vibe is what gets people hurt. Treat it right and enjoy the glow.

Never let a blanket, couch, or pillow become the landing spot for a charging device.
Heat builds fast when airflow gets blocked, and soft materials make a risky cushion. Set the charger on a solid, level surface with nothing soft underneath — a countertop, sturdy shelf, or open floor space works best.
A few inches of clearance and a firm base go a long way toward keeping charging sessions uneventful.
Drop a 🔥 if you’ve ever caught a charger parked on the sofa.

🔥 That Device Acting Weird? Power It Down Now.
A battery on the edge doesn’t always wait for a dramatic ending. If your phone, tablet, laptop, or power tool starts radiating serious heat, bulging at the seams, giving off a chemical or sweet odor, dripping fluid, venting smoke, or crackling and hissing — that’s your cue to unplug it and set it aside immediately.
Don’t charge it. Don’t keep using it “just to finish one thing.” Move it away from anything flammable, and get it checked or properly recycled before it becomes a bigger problem.
A few seconds of caution beats a melted device — or worse. Stay sharp out there. 🔋⚠️

Your phone, tablet, or laptop didn’t come with a random power brick for decoration.
A bargain cord from the gas station or a no-name block from an online marketplace can overheat, melt, or spark — and that risk sits right next to your couch, bed, or workbench every night. Stick with the original cable and adapter that shipped with the device, or a replacement the maker specifically signs off on. Same job, far less chance of a ruined battery or a late-night surprise.
Got a charger you’re not sure about? Drop it in the comments and we’ll help you sort safe from sketchy.

🔋 Battery-Powered Gear Belongs Outside the Building
That e-bike, scooter, or cordless tool pack can throw off serious heat while it tops up. Park those bigger batteries on a porch, driveway, or open outdoor spot instead of in a hallway, garage doorway, or anywhere people need to get out fast.
A charging unit sitting in a path turns a small problem into a blocked escape route. Give the batteries fresh air and keep every exit clear.
Small habit. Big difference when something overheats. 🧯

🔋 Your Phone, Your Power Tool, Your E-Bike — One Bad Habit Can Start a Fire
October 4–10 is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s focus is something most of us do every single day: charging lithium-ion batteries. Phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, scooters, and e-bikes all run on them. Used the right way, they’re reliable. Used the wrong way, they can overheat, fail, and ignite.
A few habits that actually make a difference:
✅ Charge on a hard, flat surface — never on a bed, couch, or pile of clothes

âś… Use the charger that came with the device (or a certified replacement)

✅ Unplug once it’s full — don’t leave it cooking overnight

✅ If a battery is swollen, hot, or damaged, stop using it and don’t try to charge it

âś… Keep exits clear so everyone can get out if something goes wrong
Small routines. Big protection for your home and everyone in it.
Drop a 🔋 in the comments if you’re already charging smarter — or tag someone who leaves devices plugged in on the sofa.
