Commander Mims was joined by IFD and IEMS to present staff, lifeguards, and members of the Riviera Club with certificates of appreciation for their swift, life-saving actions during a medical emergency. When a member became unconscious in the swimming pool, these individuals quickly got him out of the pool, began administering CPR, and utilizing an AED device. 911 was promptly notified, and staff coordinated to direct first responders to the patient as soon as they arrived. The first North District officer on scene praised how the quick thinking and life-saving actions of these heroic staff and bystanders were essential to saving the patient's life.

We wish to recognize those individuals and thank them for their contributions during a medical emergency. Well done!!

IMPD is launching a new tool to assist drivers with exchanging information when they’re involved in minor, property damage accident.

𝗜𝗻 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿? 𝗪𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽!

Today, IMPD is launching a new 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹 to improve roadside safety and save you time. If you’re involved in a minor vehicle crash with no injuries, you’ll now receive a 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸 straight to your phone, instead of waiting for an officer.

This easy-to-use tool gives you everything you need to file an insurance claim. It keeps you moving and allows our officers to stay focused on higher-priority calls.

The Driver Exchange Tool offers immediate documentation and 𝟮𝟰/𝟳 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 at 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘀.𝗼𝗿𝗴, where drivers can securely access and download their exchange at no cost.

So, what do you do if you’re involved in a minor, property-damage-only crash?

𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐫, 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐃 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬

For nearly 40 years, our North District officers have operated out of our current facility off of 30th Street. While this building has served us well, it has run its course. From recurring flooding issues to outdated infrastructure, the limitations are impacting our daily operations, officer morale, and more importantly, how we connect with you.

Our current space lacks the room to host you. We want a facility that isn’t just for officers, but also a resource for the IMPD to engage with the community. The preliminary rendering gives you a look at what’s to come to the new facility. The final design may vary throughout the project.

That’s why we're thrilled that the City Council has approved a bond to fund a new North District headquarters in the Forest Manor neighborhood.

• 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: We know that true community policing thrives on connection. This facility will provide the space needed for officers and neighbors to collaborate side-by-side.
• 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: Space for a dedicated training space to keep our officers mentally and physically prepared to serve you.

A new North District facility isn't just an investment in a physical building; it's an investment in the future of the Forest Manor neighborhood and the safety of our community.

We're excited about this next chapter and will keep you updated as progress is made.

𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐬

Burglars are looking for easy opportunities to steal from unoccupied homes. These incidents are primarily taking place on the weekends when people are away from their residence for an extended period of time, when they are at work, and during the overnight hours.

Consider the steps below to help protect your home:

🔒 Lock all windows, doors, and vehicles before leaving. Have a routine to double-check your locks.

💡 Exterior lighting near entry points deters burglars from entering the residence.

🔑 Don’t leave valuable items such as cash, jewelry, or electronics in view from a window. Keep them locked away when possible.

📱Do not post on social media where you live, how long you will be gone, or where you are going.

☎️ Consider security measures such as alarm systems, doorbell cameras, and glass break sensors. Make sure contact numbers are up to date for your alarm company.

🏡 Get to know your neighbors and lookout for each other.

🚔 If you see someone or something suspicious, call 911. If possible, try to provide a suspect or vehicle description to dispatch so they can share this with arriving officers.

🚨 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭 🚨

Excessive speed is dangerous and has consequences. This morning, a North District officer conducting speed enforcement along Fall Creek Parkway stopped multiple drivers going more than 20 mph over the posted 40 mph speed limit .

As you can see, there was just a crash at this location yesterday. Speed is major contributor to crashes. The drivers stopped this morning each received a citation for their speed. These tickets are at least $175, and can add points to your driver record (insurance rates ⬆️).

Each of us has a responsibility to drive safe. Slow down, put your phone down, and get there safely!

𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 - 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

On Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, Officer Joseph Hockstra was driving eastbound on I-70. He observed a vehicle swerving several cars ahead of him, and the vehicle quickly pulled over to the shoulder where a driver and passenger exited the vehicle. Officer Hockstra slowed down and observed one male was bleeding heavily from his leg. Without hesitation, Officer Hockstra pulled over to assist.

As he approached, he was informed the male passenger was shot. Officer Hockstra radioed for EMS and additional officers, and immediately began rendering medical aid. Officer Hockstra applied a tourniquet, slowing the heavy bleeding to a stop. As another officer arrived to assist, Officer Hockstra noticed additional bleeding. Officer Hockstra advised responding officers there may be another injury to the back of the victim. Officers turned him and located an exit wound. Officers were able to apply a bandage to the back of the male, which helped to stabilize him.

Officer Hockstra changed gears and began gathering information. Officer Hockstra was able to identify the driver and victim, gather a possible suspect vehicle description, and what led to the shooting. Indiana State Police troopers arrived on scene and took over the investigation. Officer Hockstra gathered a large amount of information quickly to make the transition of the investigation to the State Police very smooth. Medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a hospital. A medic assisting the victim praised how well the tourniquet applied by Officer Hockstra was placed and secured. Officer Hockstra's medical aid and calm demeanor with the victim was vital to stopping internal hemorrhaging as well as keeping him relaxed.

For his swift action to help a critically wounded victim, and his outstanding investigative ability during this incident, Officer Joseph Hockstra is recognized as North District's Officer of the Month for August 2026. We greatly appreciate Broad Ripple Post #3 of the American Legion for their support of our Officer of the Month program!
