Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich met with leaders at Mitsubishi Materials Corporation in Japan yesterday to explore how Indiana and Japan can join forces to strengthen critical mineral supply chains across the Pacific.

The company is invested in the Japan‑U.S. Critical Minerals Project to develop and refine rare earths, copper and other critical minerals — in part through Indiana entities Exurban and ReElement Technologies. These initiatives support Governor Mike Braun’s work to build an independent supply chain for critical earth minerals.

Following his visit with Mitsubishi, Secretary Goodrich met with representatives of JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) to reaffirm our shared commitment to driving innovation and collaboration in support of future opportunities.

Finally, Mr. Goodrich met with officials at Subaru Corporation in Tokyo, celebrating 40 years of Subaru of Indiana Automotive in Lafayette with Chairman Fumiaki Hayata. Half of all Subarus sold in the U.S. are made in Indiana, and we remain committed to the company’s continued success in our state.

Thanks to all for warmly welcoming our team.

On day two of his visit to Japan, Indiana Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich met with leaders from Eli Lilly and Company International to discuss our shared commitments to innovation as well as Indiana’s ability to accelerate the speed of business. In a globally competitive environment, agility matters.

During his visit, Secretary Goodrich expressed Indiana’s gratitude for Eli Lilly’s support of the September Midwest-Japan Conference in Indianapolis and engaged in fruitful discussion about future collaborative opportunities.

Later, he met with officials from Honda in Tokyo, thanking them for 15+ years of partnership in Greensburg, Indiana, where their automotive assembly plant employs more than 2,500 Hoosiers.

We are grateful for Honda’s continued engagement with our state and for the opportunity to share perspectives on building a strong value chain and developing new technology by developing people. More tomorrow!

Governor Mike Braun’s economic strategy for Indiana includes investment, innovation and strengthening international partnerships — priorities that guided Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich’s engagements on day one of his visit to Japan.

Building on the momentum of the recent Midwest–Japan Conference in Indianapolis, our team met with leaders from conference sponsor Toyota Industries Corporation, whose subsidiary, Toyota Material Handling recently opened a $100 million plant in Columbus, Indiana.

Secretary Goodrich also connected with representatives from Toyota Tsusho Corporation, whose participation in the Midwest-Japan conference and development of facilities across our state (in Lafayette, Columbus and Princeton) bode well for future collaboration.

Today, nearly 290 Japanese business facilities employ more than 60,000 Indiana workers. Our connection with Japan is among our most significant international partnerships.

Secretary Goodrich and his team look forward to continuing conversations throughout the week to advance collaboration — driving investment, innovation and high-quality opportunities for all Hoosiers.

Governor Mike Braun’s $1 billion commitment to strengthening the agriculture and life science industries across the state has created incredible momentum; yesterday’s groundbreaking in Indianapolis showed just how far we’ve come.

The RV industry is especially near and dear to Indiana Governor Mike Braun because it drives thousands of Hoosier jobs. Did you know that Elkhart County, Indiana is the RV capital of the world? Hoosiers produce more than 80% of all RVs nationwide.

Recently, Associate Director for IMHA–RVIC Matt Rose welcomed Indiana state legislators, dignitaries and members of IEDC to the Elkhart RV Dealer Open House, providing an update on the current industry landscape and a preview of new RV units shaping the market.

IEDC is proud to support the companies and teams driving innovation—and grateful to everyone who took time to engage in these conversations.
