311 childcare centers in Indiana have closed since September 2025 as a result of the Braun administration’s cuts to CCDF vouchers.

Even longstanding institutions like Crescent Avenue Weekday School in Fort Wayne haven’t been spared. After 70 years of caring for local kids, it closed its doors last week. About 75% of its families relied on vouchers, and after the cuts and enrollment freeze, the school went from nearly 100 children to about 40.

Hoosier families deserve better.

On Tuesday, the Interim Study Committee on Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications met to address NIPSCO's disaster recovery response following the August 11th derecho that left thousands in Northwest Indiana without power for up to two weeks.

NIPSCO dropped the ball. Like Rep. Carolyn Jackson of Hammond says, when you're the only option customers have, you need to have a plan in place before the storm hits. A two-week outage deserves more than a one-day meeting.

Almost 400,000 Hoosiers went without power for days to weeks after severe weather in August.

On Sept. 29, members of the Interim Study Committee on Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications will meet at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT to discuss NIPSCO and other utility companies' response and how to avoid another disaster in the future.

Hoosiers aren’t asking for a lot. They want cheaper gas, lower utility rates and no more wars. Right now, they’re being let down.

Gas is hitting $4 around Indiana - and that's with the gas tax suspended. Meanwhile, Hoosiers who use diesel have received no relief. Farmers, truckers, and Hoosiers who drive diesel vehicles are getting squeezed as diesel surges to almost $7 a gallon.

This is why we've been saying that suspending the gas tax doesn't fully fix the problem of high prices. Gov. Braun and Indiana's congressional delegation must push President Trump to end his expensive, unnecessary Iran War. Hoosiers are paying for this war with their tax dollars and at the pump. It needs to end now.

On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we remember all who lost their lives in that horrific terrorist attack: the workers clocking in at their jobs, the plane passengers and pilots, the first responders, and all those who succumbed to illness years later from being at Ground Zero that day.
