What a wonderful visit from Mayor Mary Ferdon! ☺️

Every Voice Matters at McDowell!

Yesterday, we were honored to welcome Mayor Mary Ferdon to McDowell Adult Education for a meaningful conversation with our students.

This visit was about more than just a conversation. It was about creating a space where our students could share their questions, ideas, concerns, and hopes for their community — and know that their voices matter.

For adults learning English, speaking up can take a lot of courage. Finding the right words, overcoming the fear of making mistakes, and expressing yourself in a new language are not always easy. That is why seeing our students raise their hands, ask questions, and share their thoughts in English was so special. We are incredibly proud of them!

We are grateful to Mayor Ferdon for taking the time to listen, connect with our students, and remind them that they are an important part of our community.

At McDowell, we believe education is about more than learning English or earning a diploma. It is about building confidence, creating opportunities, and helping every student feel seen, valued, and heard.

Because every voice matters. Every story matters. And every student deserves to be heard.
