City of Inglewood Government "The only thing that has changed in Inglewood, is everything." - Mayor James T. Butts

Inglewood's rich history begins with the Centinela Adobe, situated on Rancho Aguaje de la Centinela, which was built in 1834 by Ygnacio Machado, son of one of the soldiers protecting the first settlers of Los Angeles on their way from Mexico. After several additions and owners, two land grants-Rancho Aguaje de Centinela and Rancho Sausal Ranando were bought by Sir Robert Burnett of Scotland, leased by and later sold to Daniel Freeman from Canada. As a gateway to major commercial centers of the United States and internationally, Inglewood is in a unique position on the shore of the Pacific Rim. The Los Angeles International Airport is directly accessible by Inglewood's Century Boulevard – one of the City's busiest commercial corridors. Proximity to the airport, the Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors, and four major freeways facilitate both domestic and international trade.

The City of Inglewood offers Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) twice a year, providing residents the opportunity to dispose of large household items without scheduling a pickup. Residents simply place their items neatly at the curb for collection. This service is free of charge for single-family and multi-family residents only.

Accepted items include furniture, appliances, mattresses, bundled wood and tree branches, and boxed or bagged debris. Unacceptable items include hazardous materials, construction materials and large items that would require more than two people to lift.

Collection is managed by Republic Services and occurs on Saturdays during the OCS event period, and each neighborhood’s pickup date is determined by its regular street sweeping day.

To ensure safe and efficient service, residents should bundle loose materials, place smaller items in bags or boxes weighing no more than 60 pounds, and ensure wood or branch bundles are no longer than 4 feet. Items should be placed at the curb after 4:00 PM the day before collection and before 7:00 AM on the scheduled Saturday.
