Timber Fire Update – October 4, 2026
TIMBER: Acres: 25,350 | 90% contained | Personnel: 691
Timber Fire Current Situation:
Additional air support arrived Sunday, and all helicopters flew missions in support of ground operations. Water drops were made on smokes near Double Cone and along Highway 1. Personnel, equipment, and supplies were flown onto Hopkins Ridge, and slings of equipment were delivered to Skinner Ridge. An infrared flight is scheduled overnight to detect any remaining heat.
Repair work continues to make good progress around the fire. Crews are nearing completion on the northeast side, while on the southeast side Skidgines are positioned to help prevent new ignitions. Crews continue to maintain a presence along Highway 1.
Weather:
Sunday was hot and dry, with highs in the low 90s Fahrenheit and relative humidity dropping into the upper teens. The National Weather Service has extended the heat advisory through Wednesday evening, with daytime highs in the 90s Fahrenheit and overnight lows in the 70s Fahrenheit in the hills. Winds will remain light, but poor overnight humidity recovery will continue to dry vegetation through Thursday, increasing the chance of new fire starts. Cooler temperatures may arrive by Friday.
Evacuations:
As of 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, evacuation orders remain in effect for four Timber Fire zones: MRY‑D082, MRY‑F015‑B, MRY‑F015‑C and MRY‑F023‑B. All other evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted.
Highway 1 remains open. Please use caution, as crews and heavy equipment will be entering and exiting traffic. Recreational access to public lands is open at all parks west of Highway 1 and south of the Plaskett Fire. The rest of the Monterey Ranger District of Los Padres National Forest remains closed to the public, with specified exceptions.
