Another IAFF 2nd District convention has come to a close, and we are grateful to all those that took the time to attend from our departments across the state.

Members from Des Moines Firefighters, Ames Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 625, Iowa City Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 610, Urbandale Firefighters, Davenport Association of Professional Firefighters Local #17, West Des Moines Fire Fighters & Medics IAFF L3586, Ottumwa Fire Department Local 395, and Waterloo Firefighters IAFF L66 spent the last few days learning, networking, and growing in their union leadership skills that they will take back to their home locals. The Iowa Professional Firefighters Association exists to create and ensure safe and healthy working conditions for our members, as well as their families. When cities try to cut corners on safety and well-being, we are there to make sure our members have safe working conditions.

Earlier this year in March, there was a friendly little wager with the Nebraska Professional Fire Fighters Association around a March madness game involving the 4th seed Nebraska Huskers and the 9th seed Iowa Men's Basketball. We both wagered that the losing team would have to enjoy the corn from the winning teams state.

Well, let's just say that after some serious (lighthearted) trash talking in March, it was time for the Nebraska Professional Fire Fighters to pay up at IAFF 2nd District in front of everyone!

The verdict is still out on if they enjoyed it or not, but we are certainly confident that our corn is by far the superior corn, and tastes incredible! Thanks for being great sports and paying up on the debt Nebraska! Better luck next season!

The IPFF is endorsing Josh Turek for United States Senate. Josh was a big supporter of our cancer bill, as well as other bills that advanced firefighter health and safety. Josh is very interested in continuing our fight at the national level for many of the issues we've faced with staffing, safety concerns, and more.

Early voting is open now, go vote for Josh Turek!

Early voting is open now, and will continue until election day on 11/3/2026. Get out and vote and let your voice be heard.
As a state union, we look at all the candidates and try to meet with them to discuss our issues in the fire service when it comes to safety and staffing of stations in your community. At the end of the day we will support those that support us, regardless of party!
Our members come first and we want those in office that will support your community firefighters. So get out and vote, and make sure you are choosing the candidates that support your community firefighters.
