We are so proud of this group of Big and Little Sisters who volunteered at the North Liberty Community Pantry ! We love to see our Littles embracing community service and how about those Big Sisters doing double duty-- volunteering as a mentor AND at the pantry at the same time!! Wow- our Bigs are truly AMAZING.

One of our best Match Events ever!! Thank you so much to Noel Maier at Maier Farm and Stables and her team for hosting our group of 15 Matches this past Sunday. This was a "first" for most of our Littles-- hanging out on a real farm, holding barn cats, dodging manure, and of course riding the gorgeous ponies.

We were incredibly proud-- our Littles were great listeners and what's more they were brave! We had a lot of nervous smiles when they first got in the saddle. By the end they were all ready for another ride around the arena.

If these photos don't bring a smile to your face, well, then, we got nothin' 🤣.

Are you worried about the future of our communities and our neighborhoods? About the future we are creating for today's young people? We have an antidote for that: mentorship.

Mentorship represents one of the most powerful forms of social
infrastructure we can build — human connections that create
ripple effects extending far beyond individual relationships.

We are so excited for our first BIG Futures cohort! Thanks to a grant from Iowa City AM Rotary, we have kicked off a new program: BIG Futures.

We have 8 matches participating in this pilot program. During the coming academic year, these Littles, with the support of their Bigs, will complete the following steps:
1. Create a resume
2. Follow through with a SMART goal
3. Complete a Life Skills Challenge
4. Participate in two community service events
5. Attend at least one BBBS BIG Futures event

Each step needs to be tied to one of the following focus areas: Engaging With Community; Caring For Your Health; or Reading And Learning. And here's what's really cool-- these three areas were inspired by a talk that Coach Kirk Ferentz gave our Men of Character group. So heyyyyy 😉😉😉.

Every Little who completes these steps earns a $50 gift card!!

The biggest thanks to Big Brother Andrew Evans and his employer who graciously hosted us in their beautiful office in downtown Iowa City.

THIS is the BBBS difference!!

Happy National DAF Day! 💚

Today is a great reminder that generosity can make a lasting impact and your donor-advised funds (DAF) is one meaningful way to support the causes you care about. What's a DAF? A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is like a charitable investment account for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County, every gift helps create and support mentoring relationships that empower young people to reach their full potential. When you recommend a grant from your DAF to BBBSJC, you’re helping make a difference in the life of a child right in your community.

This National DAF Day, consider putting your charitable dollars to work and supporting the power of mentorship. Your generosity can help change a life one match at a time.
