Congrats to Cecil Campbell, exhibition and engagement student lead for the Main Library Gallery, on curating another pop-up exhibit!

Ding Darling: How Art Shapes a Message, is set up at FilmScene for the annual Refocus Film Festival this weekend.

Through facsimile materials, it looks at how two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Jay N. “Ding” Darling turned politics, conservation, and local news into a few panels anyone could understand. Editorial cartoons are adaptation in miniature, which makes them a natural fit for a festival that celebrates adaptations.

We’re proud of our community collaborations with FilmScene, and it’s extra special that this one features student work.

If you’d like to see more, visit It’s Been Wonderful Knowing You: Wildlife Conservation and Advocacy Through the Lens of Jay N. “Ding” Darling in the Main Library Gallery.

Join us in celebrating some of the strongest allies in healthcare.

Day in and day out, the team at Hardin Library for the Health Sciences connects students, researchers, and clinicians with timely, trustworthy information that leads to better decisions, and their reach extends to communities across Iowa.

Finding a book, an article, or something more specific for your research starts in one place: InfoHawk+.

It searches our entire collection at once, print and electronic alike, including ebooks, articles inside our databases, special collections, and newspapers.

For more focused research, we also offer more than 1,200 databases built for scholarly, news, and trade publication searches.

We have tutorials to help you search InfoHawk+ well, and if you still can't find what you're looking for, our librarians are available through a free online chat.

Every plant in the Roots of Medicine garden has a story, and a QR code to tell it.

This collaboration between the College of Pharmacy, Hardin Library for the Health Sciences librarians, and community members pairs the garden with historical resources from Hardin’s John R. Martin Rare Book Room. Scan a tag to explore how each plant has been used in medicine over time and what researchers are learning now.

Meet the 100Grannies

Since 2012, the 100Grannies have been working to educate, advocate, and agitate for renewable energy, pure water, clean air, and a healthy environment here in Iowa. Tomorrow, they’re joining the Iowa Women’s Archives to share that story.

This talk will explore the history of the nonprofit, what their archival records reveal, and how the group continues to support Iowans today. You’ll also get a close look at a pop-up display of original materials from the 100Grannies Records, held in the Iowa Women’s Archives.

📍 Third Floor Special Collections Reading Room, Main Library
🗓️ Tuesday, Oct. 13
⏰ 5:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.

Make an evening of it. Before or after the talk, visit the Main Library Gallery to see more about the 100Grannies and other Iowa conservation efforts in “It’s Been Wonderful Knowing You: Wildlife Conservation and Advocacy Through the Lens of Jay N. ‘Ding’ Darling.”

The gallery is open until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and is free and open to all.

Willow Fuchs, librarian at the Business Library, recently presented to marketing students on the research resources and tools available through the library, including databases and materials tailored to business coursework.

The Business Library offers more than a quiet place to study in the Pappajohn Business Building’s Biz Hub. Our librarians are available to answer questions, assist with research, and provide support for classes throughout the semester.
