FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Lawrence County Commissioners adopt All-Purpose Vehicle resolution
IRONTON, Ohio โ The Lawrence County Commissioners on Tuesday (10/13/2026) unanimously adopted a resolution to allow for the operation of All-Purpose Vehicles (APVs) on county roads.
It comes after advocacy from community members who have pushed for this ordinance to pass.
โItโs a great step forward in the process of getting everyone involved in viewing the beauty Lawrence County has to offer,โ said Commissioner Dr. Colton Copley. The commissioners now hope those community members will continue to advocate for other causes in the county.
โWe want to emphasize public safety and responsible operation of APVs must remain a priority,โ said Commissioner DeAnna Holliday. โWe felt that it was important that we give opportunities for these APVs to be able to utilize our county roads as a means of transportation.โ
APVs must be titled and registered at an Ohio BMV location, just like any other vehicle and are subject to all traffic and criminal laws on county roads. APVs must be insured and operated by a person holding a valid driverโs license.
At this time, the resolution allows for the operation of APVs on County Roads. This does not include State Routes, U.S. Routes, or Township Roads. โWe hope all townships will adopt this resolution as it will help tourism, as well as mom-and-pop groceries that are still alive and well in our county,โ said Commissioner Mike Finley.
APVs include, but are not limited to, side-by-sides, UTVs, 4-wheelers, and golf carts. โBeing able to view and enjoy Lawrence County from an All-Purpose Vehicle is like riding a motorcycle, it puts a whole different perspective to the beauty of the land,โ said Commissioner Holliday.
