The Ironton Police Department would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to our friends at Little Caesars for their continued support of local law enforcement K-9s through the Pizza Paws fundraiser!

This year, our K-9 team received a first-aid kit filled with essential emergency supplies, including an oxygen mask specifically designed for K-9s. These resources can make a critical difference when our four-legged partners need help in the field.

This donation is especially meaningful for Detective Captain Brian Pauley, who was one of the first recipients of a Pizza Paws K-9 first-aid kit when he was partnered with K-9 Goose. Today, Brian was there to welcome this year’s donation and see that same support continue for our current K-9 team, Bella and Patrolman Murnahan.

Thank you to Little Caesars, their employees, and everyone who donated to Pizza Paws for helping us take care of the ones who take care of us!

Know Your Rights & Responsibilities: Bicycle and E-Bike Laws in Ironton

The City of Ironton reminds residents and visitors to ride responsibly, ride safely, and share the road. Whether you ride a traditional bicycle or an electric bicycle, it is important to understand the rules that help keep riders, drivers, and pedestrians safe.

Bicycle and e-bike operators are expected to follow traffic rules that apply to vehicles and ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable.

Key Bicycle and E-Bike Rules

Riders should be aware of the following requirements:

Follow traffic laws.
Bicycle and electric bicycle riders must obey all applicable traffic rules.

Use hand signals.
When operating a bicycle or electric bicycle on the street, riders must give hand signals before turning, changing lanes, or stopping.

Class 3 e-bike speedometer requirement.
All Class 3 electric bicycles must be equipped with a speedometer that displays the speed of the electric bicycle in miles per hour.

Age rules for Class 3 e-bikes.
No person under 16 years of age may operate a Class 3 electric bicycle. However, a person under 16 may ride as a passenger on a Class 3 electric bicycle if it is designed to accommodate passengers.

Helmet requirement for Class 3 e-bikes.
No person may operate or ride as a passenger on a Class 3 electric bicycle unless they are wearing a protective helmet.

Be Seen. Be Safe.

Visibility is an important part of safe riding. Bicycles and electric bicycles should be equipped with proper lights and reflectors when required.

A front lamp must be mounted on the bicycle or electric bicycle and produce a white light visible from at least 500 feet to the front and 300 feet to the sides.

A red reflector must be visible on the rear from distances of 100 feet to 600 feet when directly in front of lawful lower-beam headlights.

Bicycles and electric bicycles may also be equipped with a device capable of giving an audible signal. However, bicycles and electric bicycles should not be equipped with, and riders should not use, a siren or whistle.
