Vegetation Fire Response β Daisy Lane Area
Yesterday evening at 6:29 p.m., Irrigon Fire Protection District was dispatched to a reported vegetation fire threatening homes in the Daisy Lane area. Our on-duty wildland staffing crew responded immediately, with the first apparatus en route in under three minutes.
Upon arrival, firefighters found an approximately 2-acre vegetation fire spreading at a moderate rate toward nearby residences. Crews immediately prioritized structure protection while simultaneously working to contain the fire. Shifting winds caused the fire to change direction multiple times, creating rapidly changing conditions on the fireground.
As the fire progressed into a marshy area with limited access and extremely sandy terrain surrounding the area, suppression efforts became more challenging. Despite these obstacles, firefighters continued working to contain the fire and protect surrounding homes and property.
Due to the potential for rapid fire growth and the immediate threat to nearby residences, additional resources were requested from Boardman Fire Rescue, Umatilla Rural Fire District, and US wild land fire services (Legacy BIA fire, and Kalispell Tribal Fire Department). We are grateful for the quick response and outstanding teamwork demonstrated by all of our mutual aid partners.
We would also like to recognize the incredible support from members of our community who stepped up to assist during the incident. A special thank you to the McNamee family for providing fire trucks, Jasen Holz for providing equipment assistance, Luna's for their support, El Buen sazon for providing refreshing drinks to our firefighters, and the many others who offered help throughout the evening. Your generosity and willingness to serve your community are greatly appreciated.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. And crews are still on scene monitoring any potential hotspots. No structures were lost and no firefighter or public injuries were reported.
As always, we thank our firefighters, mutual aid partners, and community members for working together to help protect the Irrigon community.
