Earlier this week, Second Harvest was in Sacramento for the California Association of Food Banks Food Access Conference and Capitol Action Day.
Together with other California food banks, we are advocating for sustained levels of funding for the CalFood program in the state budget so that we may continue to distribute fresh and nutritious California-grown food to our neighbors in need.
While in Sacramento, Second Harvest had the opportunity to give public comment for CalFood at an Assembly budget hearing, and we met with our Senate and Assembly representatives about our CalFood budget request. Thank you to all of our Orange County legislators who took the time to meet with us.
Food insecurity is on the rise here in Orange County, and more people are turning to food banks for support. Now, more than ever, we must work together to ensure that we can continue feeding our communities and meet their growing needs.

When school ends, many children lose access to the reliable food they count on every day.
Through our Kids Cafe Program, we provide healthy food to children 18 and under, helping them stay nourished while school is out.
Join us in making sure every child has access to the meals they need this summer. Donate today: www.feedoc.org/donate

We’re proud to share this recent article published by the Orange County Business Journal and co-authored by our CEO, Claudia Bonilla Keller, and Mark Lowry, director of the OC Food Bank at Community Action Partnership of Orange County.
The article explores the broader economic impact of proposed CalFresh cuts and why ensuring consistent access to nutritious food matters not only for families, but for the strength and stability of our entire community.
At a time when more Orange County community members are turning to our Partner Network for support, these conversations are more important than ever.
Thank you to OCBJ for helping spotlight this critical issue.
