This weekend, our cadets competed in the Ranger Challenge competition at Fort Hunter Liggett, CA. Over three days, they faced off against 34 teams from Alaska, California, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.
The competition featured Army-focused, team-centered events ranging from marksmanship to physical fitness. This competition required physical endurance and mentally toughness from our cadets and they delivered!
We are proud of how our cadets represented and the Anteater Detachment!

Ranger Challenge is ROTC’s toughest team competition. It is a test of endurance, grit, and teamwork under pressure. Think long rucks, land navigation, physical trials, and problem-solving when you’re already exhausted. No shortcuts. Just discipline and trust in the people next to you.
How UCI’s RC team trains:
Ruck often, and progressively heavier
Build strength and stamina (running, calisthenics, functional lifts)
Practice land nav until it’s second nature
Train tired, cold, and uncomfortable, because that’s the point
Most importantly: train as a team

Last Thursday, Charlie Company executed four simultaneous squad-level movement-to-contact operations.
Unlike the previous week’s platoon-scale exercise, this iteration focused more on a micro-scale approach, emphasizing squad autonomy, coordination, and ex*****on within each squad leader’s respective objectives.

Branches and components locked in.
Every MSIV brings a different background and a different story, but the same commitment to serve. This marks progress, not completion. The standard remains high, the work continues, and the finish line is within reach. Proud of the discipline it took to get here and focused on what’s still ahead.
