Wake up and smell the audit.

"We need to know where our money is going. You want to put a thousands of pages of budget documents in PDF form on the city website? People aren’t gonna read that," I said at a recent City Council candidate forum.

Residents deserve to know where the budget stands, what things actually cost, and how your tax dollars are being spent.

Transparency shouldn’t mean dropping a massive PDF online and calling it a day.

Irvine needs an independent city auditor, clear financial information, and real accountability at City Hall.

Every budget is about choices.

Families and businesses have to decide what they need, what they’d like to have, and what they can actually afford. City Hall should too.

Irvine faced a roughly $6 million deficit this year, with much larger deficits projected ahead. Before asking residents and businesses for more, we should first ask whether we’re spending the money we already have on the things that matter most.

Fiscal responsibility isn’t about saying no to everything. It’s about knowing the difference between a need and a want.

I’ve worked in public finance for more than a decade. I’ll be ready on day one to tackle Irvine’s budget challenges and you can help >>> AnthonyKuo.org

Today’s lemonade break took me back a few years.

These young entrepreneurs are students at Alderwood, where I went to elementary school, back when it was in Woodbridge.

I remember selling tickets to our pancake breakfast at the Irvine Harvest Festival. Schools and nonprofits from all over Irvine came together as a community and raised money with pancakes, popcorn, games, dunk tanks, or whatever else they could come up with.

Do you remember going to the Harvest Festival, or fundraising there?

Decades later, it’s pretty fun to see another generation of Alderwood students out there raising money, this time one cup of lemonade at a time.

Irvine helped raise me. Now it’s our turn to help raise the next generation.

I’m apparently doing driveway car videos now. 😂

Just got home from tonight’s candidate forum graciously hosted by the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center and Irvine Watchdog, after stopping at a lemonade stand because my rule is: always stop at the lemonade stand.

At the forum, I agreed with the case made in a Watchdog editorial for something Irvine needs now: an independent auditor. With a $6 million deficit this year and bigger deficits projected ahead, we need serious financial oversight.

I’ve worked in public finance for more than a decade.

Send me back to City Hall and let’s get it done >>> AnthonyKuo.org

Irvine has changed a lot since my family moved here in 1978.

Growth is inevitable. Poor planning isn’t.

As Irvine continues to grow, we have to think carefully about traffic, schools, parks, public services, open space, and the neighborhoods that are already here.

Where and how we grow matters.

Good planning isn’t just about what we build. It’s about protecting the quality of life that made people choose Irvine in the first place.

I can bring common-sense planning back to City Hall. And you can help >> AnthonyKuo.org

Remember my post yesterday about public safety? This is exactly why it has to remain a priority every day.

Irvine remains an extraordinarily safe community, but that doesn’t happen by accident, and it shouldn’t be taken for granted.

I’m grateful to the Irvine Police Department and its detectives for their work on this disturbing case, and I hope anyone with information that could help identify additional victims will contact IPD.

But it also raises a question I’ve been asking throughout this campaign: Why aren’t we hearing more about public safety from our current city leaders?

Public safety shouldn’t become a priority only after something terrible happens. It requires constant attention, strong staffing, the right resources and a City Council that treats it as a priority every day.

Irvine is safe. And that’s exactly why public safety should remain a priority.

Great parks, great schools and a great quality of life only matter if people feel safe in their community.

Public safety shouldn’t be something we rediscover every election season. It requires attention every year.

It was one of my priorities when I served before, and it will be again. You can help the campaign by visiting >>> AnthonyKuo.org

Twelve years serving Irvine taught me a lot.

Experience matters, but only if you learn from it.

I’m grateful Irvine voters have trusted me before, and I’m asking for the opportunity to serve again.

I’m FROM Irvine. I’m FOR Irvine. And I’m ready to get back to work.

The sign crew is growing!

Thanks to my friend’s son Seth for helping get a few more Anthony Kuo signs out around District 5 this week.

Seth goes to Lakeside Middle School, where I went too, so naturally I spent part of the evening telling him stories about what Lakeside and Irvine were like when I was his age. I’m not sure he asked for all of them.

Want a sign for your yard? Let us know and we’ll deliver one to you!

And after Election Day, we’ll be back to pick them up and clean them up too. Putting signs out is part of the campaign. Making sure they come back down is part of it too.

Thanks to everyone who’s letting us borrow a little piece of their front yard >>> AnthonyKuo.org
