Twenty-five years ago, our nation changed forever. Today, the Office of Public Safety pauses to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to remember the courage of the first responders who ran toward danger to save others. We stand in solidarity with the families who continue to carry this loss, with the survivors who carry its memory, and with our Ithaca College community. May we continue to remember, honor, and never forget.

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, we remember all those who lost their lives, including six members of the extended Ithaca College community. The Dillingham Fountains are lowered today.

“Twenty-five years later, we continue to carry the memory of those six members of our IC family and all those whose lives were lost. And we are reminded that, even when we disagree, what unites us as a community is stronger than what divides us.”
-President La Jerne Terry Cornish

The 3rd Annual First Responder Charity Softball Tournament benefiting the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention was nothing short of incredible! 🥎

On behalf of the Ithaca College Office of Public Safety, thank you to everyone who made this event such a tremendous success. The energy throughout the day was contagious, the collaboration among our partner agencies and community members was truly inspiring, and the spirit of friendly competition highlighted the importance of coming together to support a cause that impacts so many.

A heartfelt thank you to our fellow first responders from the Cornell University Police Department, the Ithaca Police Department, and the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office for your partnership and camaraderie. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the many Ithaca College staff members and volunteers, especially our colleagues in Athletics, Facilities, and Dining Services, whose hard work behind the scenes helped make this event possible.

Thank you to our incredible Platinum Sponsors: Texas Roadhouse, Mills Electric, Ferguson Electric, and Cops, Kids & Toys, for your generosity and support of this important cause.

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, and cheered us on throughout the day. Together, we are raising awareness for mental health, strengthening community partnerships, and supporting the mission of the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention.

And to top it all off, we're excited to share that the Office of Public Safety brought home this year's championship trophy! 🏆 Thank you for making this our best tournament yet! We can't wait to see everyone back on the field next year!

Please avoid outdoor activities today due to poor air quality caused by heavy smoke from the Canadian wildfires. The Air Quality Index indicates unhealthy conditions, so it's especially important for anyone who is immunocompromised, has heart or lung conditions, is older, or is otherwise more vulnerable to limit time outdoors and take precautions. Stay safe!
