BIG MOVES ON FARISH STREET!

The Jackson Redevelopment Authority (JRA) is excited to announce the sale of property in the 200 block of Farish Street to Maati Jone Primm, third-generation owner of the legendary Marshall’s Music & Books!

Established in the 1940s and believed to be the nation’s oldest operating Black-owned bookstore, Marshall’s is planning to relocate from its longtime home at 618 North Farish Street to this newly acquired property, continuing its 80+-year legacy in the historic district!

This is revitalization in action—preserving history, supporting legacy businesses, and investing in Farish Street’s future!

Taking Jackson’s redevelopment vision to the nation’s capital! 🏛️

Last month, JRA CEO Alex Lawson and Community Development Manager Valerie Clark traveled to Washington, D.C., to represent JRA and the City of Jackson at the National Association for Local Housing Finance Agencies (NALHFA) Fall Educational Summit.

Lawson joined housing leaders from across the country as a featured speaker on “New Horizons for Public Land Housing Development,” sharing a powerful message: Public Land is Public Capital.

With thousands of publicly owned and tax-forfeited properties, former school sites, and undeveloped land throughout Jackson, JRA is focused on transforming underutilized properties into opportunities for housing, neighborhood revitalization, and economic growth.

We’re not just looking at what these properties are today. We’re envisioning what they can become for Jackson’s future!

On September 28, JRA was pleased to join Ward 7 neighborhood leaders for a day of conversation, connection, and collaboration.

Thank you to Councilman Kevin Parkinson for organizing these quarterly meetings and for including JRA in important conversations about Jackson’s neighborhoods. We also appreciate the opportunity for the National Folk Festival to share what’s ahead for Jackson this November!
