👨🏽‍🎓👩🏻‍🎓Catch our College Spirit! Today we joined all of Jackson Public Schools in celebrating College Spirit Day and all of our scholars had a grand time! During morning announcements we learned that our staff attended over 25 different colleges with some as far away as China and The Philippines! Our Montessori 9-12 scholars participated in our Alumni Talks- a time where McWillie alumni joined in-person or via Zoom to talk about their education after graduation and where they are now. (Spoiler! They’re doctors, nurses, business owners, operations managers, and salespeople, just to name a few!) During lunchtime, parents showed up in force repping their favorite schools and ready to enjoy the beautiful weather dining in the sunshine. Some teaching teams even had full-blown tailgates with special food and treats for scholars to enjoy! We are so grateful for our school community and loving adults who help promote the importance of education and took time to be on campus to support their children. Today, all of our scholars, staff, and families were shining bright! 🌟

📣Introducing the Elite Stars of McWillie!🌟
After reviewing our school-wide data from last year’s Comprehensive Needs Assessment Survey, it was abundantly clear that scholars and parents desired more afterschool clubs, namely cheerleading. Three of our amazing instructional assistants- Ms. Lilley, Mrs. Bronson, and Ms. Jones- answered the call and committed their time and talent to making this dream a reality. After a month of drills and practice, our Elite Stars are ready to showcase their fierce talent! Comprised of scholars in 1st through 5th grade, the Elite Stars are focused on empowerment, uplifting each other, and helping create an atmosphere of high energy with tons of McWillie Star spirit!

Today, these incredible scholars arrived at school before the sun was up so they could be in place when the morning car line started rolling at 7:00 to cheer on their peers for College Spirit Day. We are so excited for what’s to come for the Elite Stars and for the new standard of excellence they’re setting for our younger scholars already looking ahead to when they can join the team! Our first celebration with 1000 Books Before Kindergarten of the new school year! This is the second year our school librarian, Mrs. Bryson, has encouraged parents of Pre-K and Montessori 3-6 scholars to enroll in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten reading challenge. Today, we had the privilege of celebrating milestones with four of our young students! Jett read 300 books, Benjamin and AJ read 400 books, and Aven made it to 600 books! They are on their way to 1000! We know that shared reading during early childhood is one of the best predictors of future academic preparedness and success and are excited that families are committed to helping instill a lifelong love of reading! Our own McWillie 5th grader, Collins Norris, was highlighted in a recent JPS video production alongside her dad to remind us ALL to check our voter registration and be sure we're registered to vote in the General Election happening on November 3rd. Our very own Montessori 6-9 teacher, Ms. Natalie Long, was surprised in her classroom when a camera crew from WAPT News entered to share the wonderful news that she was selected as the September recipient of the Alyce Clarke Educator Award. This distinction recognizes outstanding educators across central Mississippi and is awarded based on nominations. We are incredibly proud of Ms. Long and the hard work she does every day for the scholars at McWillie! Congratulations!

At McWillie, we never stop learning, guiding, and growing! 💡

🌱In a Montessori environment, one of the greatest tools in the classroom isn't a material—it's the educator. That is why ongoing professional development is so vital for guides and teachers. Our Montessori teachers and assistants spent Thursday afternoon and all day Friday training alongside Suzanne and Kara from the Institute of Montessori Training (IMT) and can’t wait to implement their learning next week!

By continuously refining our observation skills, staying current with child development research, and updating our classroom strategies, we create spaces where children can truly thrive in self-directed learning.

Whether it's mastering a new material presentation, deepening our knowledge of the prepared environment, or collaborating with a global community of peers, learning is a lifelong journey for adults and children alike!
