🚔 Training Today. Prepared for Tomorrow. 🚨

At UMMC Police & Public Safety, staying prepared means continually learning, growing, and working together as one team! All locations and all team members were trained in Lexington and Main Campus.

Our recent in-service training brought together our police officers, security officers, and dispatch team for valuable opportunities to strengthen our knowledge, sharpen our skills, and continue building on the teamwork that keeps our campus community safe.

From the officers in the field to the security professionals providing support and the dispatchers coordinating communication, every role plays an important part in our mission.

We’re proud of our team’s commitment to professional development, preparedness, and providing the best possible service to our UMMC family. 💙

One team. One mission. A safer campus.

Great Job to our Training Staff!!

💜 Breaking the Silence: Raising Awareness, Building Support 💜

This month, Director of Public Safety, Luke Thompson, partnered with RISE for several events focused on domestic violence awareness, education, and support.

Last week, Director Thompson participated in Breaking the Silence, joining Officer Lewis, Samantha from RISE , and friends and colleagues from several departments who came together to connect with the community, share resources, offer support, and raise awareness here at UMMC's main campus.

On Wednesday, Director Thompson also spoke during the monthly Mental Health Webex, presenting on “Seeing the Signs.” He discussed recognizing the warning signs of domestic violence, understanding available resources, and knowing how to connect victims with support here at UMMC.

These conversations matter. By recognizing the signs, intervening early when appropriate, and knowing where to turn for help, we can make a difference in the lives of our students and employees.

💜 Together, we can break the silence, build awareness, and help ensure no one has to face domestic violence alone.

🎉 THROWBACK THURSDAY: SERGEANT MAYS EDITION! 🔙💙

It’s time to take a little trip down memory lane with Sergeant Mays! 👮‍♀️ This Thursday, we’re getting to know one of our own a little better with three quick questions!

💬 How long have you been at UMMC?
🗣️ “12 years!”

💬 What keeps you coming to work?
🗣️ “Being a difference maker.” 💙

💬 What advice would you give fellow employees and students to stay safe on campus?
🗣️ “If you see something, say something!” 👀🚨

🎓 Did you know? UMMC sent Sergeant Mays to the police academy, helping launch her career in campus law enforcement!

💪 Fun fact: Sergeant Mays hates going to the gym—but she goes anyway! Talk about dedication! 😄

Twelve years of service, a heart for making a difference, and a reminder that campus safety is everyone’s responsibility! 🙌

Help us show Sergeant Mays some love in the comments! 👏💙

🎓 Investing in the Next Generation of Officers! 💙👮‍♂️

A few of our UMMC Police & Public Safety officers recently participated in training focused on becoming successful Field Training Officers (FTOs). The training emphasized the importance of leadership, mentorship, fairness, ethics, and professionalism.

Officers learned how to adapt to different learning styles, recognize barriers to learning, and use effective teaching techniques to help trainees succeed.

At UMMC Police & Public Safety, we believe strong training builds confident, capable officers who are prepared to serve our campus community with excellence!

💙🏈 FAMILY SUPPORTING FAMILY! 🏈💙

Here at UMMC Police & Public Safety, we love supporting one another and celebrating our children’s accomplishments. Around here, we’re more than coworkers — WE ARE FAMILY! 💙

Recently, one of our very own, Officer McBeath’s son, Syrone McBeath Jr. (Sy Jr.), has been making headlines! Not just on one television station, but TWO! 🙌🏽🏈

You know the old saying, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!” 🍎

Officer McBeath has dedicated 28 years to law enforcement, with 20 of those years right here at UMMC, where he began his law enforcement career. But before putting on the badge, he was making his own mark on the football field as a middle linebacker at Mississippi College from 1989–1994. His accomplishments led to his induction into the Mississippi College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019! He earned a degree in criminal justice with a minor in coaching.

Now, it looks like Sy Jr. is carrying on that athletic legacy! 💪🏽 He’s a senior at Germantown High School, where he plays running back and linebacker. Named Week 8 Athlete of the Week, Sy Jr. continues to make his family and community proud!

Beyond football, he has plans to pursue a career as a physical therapist or sports trainer — and who knows, maybe we’ll see him right here at UMMC one day! 💙

📺 Be sure to tune in to WAPT Channel 16 tonight for a chance to catch his interview!

Sy Jr., we are SO proud of you and will be cheering you on every step of the way! Keep working hard, keep shining, and keep making your mark!

Check out these photos!! 📸

LET’S GO, #5!! 🏈🔥

👮‍♂️ Officer Swearing-In Day at UMMC Police & Public Safety! 💙

It was a busy and special day as we celebrated many of our officers across multiple locations! We started at our main campus with Officers McLaurin, King, and Jones, then hit the road to Lexington to see Officer Ross during in-service training, followed by a trip to Greenwood to visit Officer Washington.

No matter the location, we’re proud to recognize our officers and celebrate the commitment they bring to serving and protecting the UMMC community. Congratulations to all! 👏💙
