🚨 UPDATE: CURFEW LIFTED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEKEND 🚨

Effective immediately, the curfew for the City of Jackson has been canceled for the rest of the weekend.

I want to extend a massive thank you to our dedicated police officers and firemen who worked tirelessly through the night. Thanks to their rapid response, our streets have been cleared of fallen trees and hazardous debris, making our roadways safe to travel again.

I also want to personally thank the citizens of Jackson. Thank you for taking the curfew seriously and staying off the roads so our first responders could do their jobs. We deeply appreciate your continued patience as crews work around the clock to finish the cleanup and restore electricity to all our neighborhoods.

As we move into the weekend, please continue to look out for one another. Take a moment to check on your elderly neighbors and anyone who might need an extra hand while the power is out.

⚠️ A Critical Safety Reminder: Please stick to the safety tips we shared earlier. If you are using a generator while waiting for power to be restored, NEVER use it indoors or in an enclosed garage. Always keep generators outside and far away from windows to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Thank you again for coming together and keeping Jackson safe.

Stay safe,

Police Chief John Moore

🚨 OFFICIAL PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY: HURRICANE UPDATE & CITY CURFEW 🚨

The City of Jackson and the Jackson Police Department are issuing this formal advisory to ensure the safety of our community during the impending severe weather. A declared State of Emergency remains in effect. Please review the following critical information regarding curfews, emergency responses, and final preparations.

Weather Conditions & Curfew Enforcement:

• Anticipated Conditions: Our area expects 6 to 8 hours of sustained tropical storm winds (averaging 58–73 MPH) beginning approximately at 8:00 PM tonight (Friday).

• Mandatory Curfew: To protect public safety and keep roadways clear for first responders, a mandatory city-wide curfew will be strictly enforced beginning tonight at 8:00 PM through Sunday at 7:00 AM.

• Curfew Exceptions for Essential Workers: Please be advised that travel is not restricted for essential workers or individuals traveling to and from work at the request of their employer. We recognize that certain local businesses and personnel are vital for providing essential supplies and supporting our community's disaster recovery efforts. If your place of employment calls upon you or requires you to be there, you are exempt from this curfew. All other non-essential travel, however, remains strictly prohibited, as it actively impedes emergency clearing operations and poses severe risks.

Emergency Response Limitations:

• Response Delays & High Wind Suspensions: The safety of our community and our first responders is paramount. Please be advised that emergency responses will be delayed during periods of sustained winds. Furthermore, during high wind situations, the deployment of Fire Department apparatus and ambulance services will be strictly suspended, as it becomes extremely dangerous for these high-profile vehicles to remain on the road without risking a rollover.

• Call Prioritization: Police and emergency responses will be evaluated and prioritized on a case-by-case basis. If emergency vehicles are delayed or grounded due to high winds, 911 dispatch will not ignore your calls; they will continue to log, triage, and queue all emergencies. Units will immediately deploy to the queued emergencies as soon as wind speeds drop to a safe operational level.

Downed Trees & Hazards:

• Due to the prevalence of pine beetles in our area, local pine trees are particularly vulnerable to high winds.

• Emergencies: If a tree strikes your home or structural damage poses an immediate threat to life, call 911 immediately.

Final Preparations (Action Required):

• Water Storage: Please fill bathtubs and large, clean containers with water now. This ensures you have an adequate emergency supply for sanitation and flushing toilets in the event of a municipal water pressure loss or prolonged power outage.

• Generator Safety: Carbon monoxide is a silent, deadly threat. Never operate a gas-powered generator inside your home, garage, basement, or enclosed patio. Generators must be placed strictly outdoors, on a dry surface, and at least 20 feet away from any windows, doors, or intake vents.

• Secure Loose Items: Bring all outdoor furniture, trash cans, and loose yard items indoors immediately, as they can become dangerous projectiles in high winds.

• Shelter in Place: Once the high winds begin, remain in an interior room on the lowest floor of your home, away from windows and glass doors.

The Jackson Police Department and all city emergency services are fully mobilized and standing by to serve you as soon as conditions safely permit. Please secure your homes, take care of your families, and stay indoors. We will issue further official updates as the situation evolves.

📦 Gather Emergency Supplies
• Water: At least 1 gallon per person (and pet) per day for 3 to 7 days.
• Food: Non-perishable, ready-to-eat items, plus a manual can opener.
• Medications: At least a 7-day supply of essential prescriptions.

• Traffic Signals: Treat any dark, flashing, or damaged traffic light as a Four-Way Stop.
• Stay tuned to local forecasts from the National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola and local emergency broadcasts.

📞 Important Contact Numbers
• Life-Threatening Emergencies: Call 911 immediately.
• Non-Emergency Police Assistance: Call Dispatch at 251-246-4484.
• Power Outages & Downed Lines: Please report outages directly to your utility provider to keep police lines open for emergency calls:

Alabama Power: 1-800-888-2726

Clarke-Washington EMC: 1-800-323-9081
(Never touch or approach downed power lines—assume all downed wires are energized).

Please check on elderly neighbors and individuals who may need assistance securing their property.

Stay safe, stay inside once weather deteriorates, and look out for one another.

⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: DRONE USE NEAR HOSPITAL & HELIPAD ⚠️

The Jackson Police Department has received recent reports of unmanned aircraft (drones) operating in the immediate vicinity of the hospital and its emergency helipad.

We are reminding all recreational and commercial drone operators that flying near hospital grounds and emergency flight paths is an extreme safety hazard and is strictly regulated under federal and state law:

🚁 Life-Threatening Hazard: Emergency air ambulances and medical helicopters operate in and out of the hospital helipad on unpredictable schedules, often flying at low altitudes and high speeds. A drone strike or interference in an approach/departure corridor can cause catastrophic damage, force an emergency abort, or delay critical patient care where seconds count.

⚖️ The Law:
• Right-of-Way (FAA 14 CFR § 107.37): Drones MUST yield right-of-way to all manned aircraft at all times.
• Careless/Reckless Operation (FAA 14 CFR § 107.23): Endangering life or property carries substantial federal civil penalties exceeding $20,000.
• Interference with Emergency Services: Interfering with life-saving medical transports can result in criminal charges under federal law and Alabama criminal statutes (including Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Surveillance).

Please check your flight apps (such as B4UFLY/Aloft) before taking off, maintain visual line-of-sight, and steer well clear of healthcare facilities, emergency scenes, and helipads.

If you observe an unauthorized drone actively interfering with emergency medical operations, please contact Jackson Police Dispatch immediately. Thank you for doing your part to keep our skies and our community safe!

Today, our nation pauses to remember September 11, 2001—a day etched forever into the heart of America.

Twenty-five years ago, in our darkest hour, we saw ordinary men and women demonstrate extraordinary courage. We will never forget the 2,977 innocent lives taken, nor the brave first responders—police officers, firefighters, and paramedics—who ran selflessly toward danger. They did not hesitate, they did not look back, and hundreds made the ultimate sacrifice so that others might live. Their courage defines the highest calling of public service.

In the days that followed that tragedy, something powerful emerged from the sorrow. We did not stand apart as strangers; we stood together as Americans.

Differences are always easy to spot. It is easy to find the things that pull us apart, but the true strength of our communities—and our country—lies in choosing to look past them. We are one people. When trials come, we endure not by focusing on what divides us, but by looking after one another, lifting each other up, and working together side by side.

As we lower our flags and observe this Patriot Day, let us honor the fallen not only with our memories, but with our daily actions: with kindness toward one another, grace for all in our community, and a renewed commitment to unity.
May we always remember. May we always stand together.

Our hearts are heavy today as we mourn alongside our brothers and sisters at the Camden Police Department.

Last night, Officer Michael “Bone” Andrews tragically lost his life in an off-duty motorcycle accident. To many of our officers here, "Bone" wasn't just a fellow law enforcement brother—he was a genuine friend. He was truly one of a kind, a character whose presence brought life and laughter to every room he walked into, and his absence leaves a void that won't easily be filled.

We extend our deepest prayers and condolences to Officer Andrews’ family, loved ones, and everyone at the Camden Police Department during this devastating time. We stand with you in your grief.

Rest easy, Bone. You will be greatly missed, brother.
