🌟 Another great Rotary meeting today! 🌟

We were excited to welcome Josh Thomas with United Bank, who spoke with us about the newly established Butts County Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation, also known as the β€œFun Board.” 🏘️

The Foundation was created in 2026 as a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation focused on bridging the gap between the next generation and our community leaders through mentorship, education, workforce development, and community awareness. 🀝

πŸ“š Expanded Scholarship Opportunities
Beginning in 2027, the Foundation plans to expand Chamber scholarship opportunities from 5 to 13, with scholarships recognizing merit, workforce needs, promise, and an essay-based legacy scholarship. πŸŽ“

πŸ’Ό Workforce Development
Josh discussed plans for a Leadership Summer Intensive focused on practical β€œsoft skills” β€” communication, networking, professionalism, presentation skills, etiquette, and confidence.

πŸ‘” One of the goals is helping young people understand what it means to present yourself professionally, including something as basic β€” but important β€” as knowing how to dress appropriately for a job interview.

πŸ›‘οΈ Cybersecurity & Protecting Your Assets
Josh also put on his banker cap for a moment, and gave us a great reminder about the importance of cybersecurity and protecting our personal information and assets in an increasingly digital world.

πŸ‘• Giving Back
The Foundation is also working on a professional wardrobe initiative to help local citizens have the clothing they need to put their best foot forward when seeking employment.

πŸ“– Building Our Community
This conversation also reminded me of the importance of investing in our young people and making resources available throughout our community. That is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about our Little Free Libraries, which are located throughout Butts County at places including the Jackson Courthouse/Welcome Center, The Brickery, Piggly Wiggly, Flovilla City Hall, Butts County Parks & Recreation, Stark Elementary, Jackson Elementary, Daughtry Elementary, the Carter Avenue Housing Authority, and Dauset Trails. πŸ“šβ€οΈ

It was great to hear about the different ways our community is working to educate, equip, and empower the next generation.

Thank you, Josh, for joining us and sharing the vision for the Community Foundation!

🀝 Community doesn’t just happen. We have to fight for it, preach it, and teach it so that it endures for years to come.

πŸ›οΈ Rotary Club of Jackson β€” September 22 Meeting πŸ›οΈ

We had the pleasure of welcoming Brad Vaughan with Butts County Planning & Development as our guest speaker at today’s Rotary meeting! 🎀

Brad gave us an inside look at the planning and development process in Butts County, including the intricacies of our zoning map, zoning designations, and the approvals required for new development. πŸ—ΊοΈπŸ—οΈ

One of the biggest topics of discussion was the continued development focus along the I-75 corridor and what that growth could mean for the future of Butts County. Brad went into detail about the new River Park area, including the logistics behind the project and its potential to bring an estimated 7,500 new jobs to our community. πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈπŸ“ˆ

We also learned more about the concepts being explored for mixed-use development and healthcare facilities along the corridor, as well as the development opportunities and plans surrounding Exit 201 and Highway 36. πŸ₯🏘️

It was a great opportunity to learn more about the planning that goes into responsible growth and how these projects can shape the future of our community. We appreciate Brad taking the time to give our Rotary members a closer look at what’s happening behind the scenes! 🀝

Thank you, Brad, for joining us and sharing your knowledge with the Rotary Club of Jackson! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

πŸ’™ Rotary in the Community! πŸ’™

On September 15, our Rotary Club had the opportunity to hear from Christina Vandever, Charles Stewart, and Nicole Cook with Nick's New Beginnings.

They shared about the work they are doing right here in our community to help individuals struggling with addiction, support rehabilitation, and provide people with a path toward a healthier and more productive future. πŸ™

They also went in depth on Georgia’s 911 Medical Amnesty Law and the important role that Narcan can play in saving lives during an overdose. 🩺❀️

πŸ“š Just in case you didn’t know: Georgia’s medical amnesty law is designed to encourage people to call 911 during a drug overdose emergency. Under the law, certain people who seek medical assistance in good faith may receive limited protection from arrest, prosecution, or penalties for certain drug-related offenses. The goal is simple: don’t hesitate to call for help when someone’s life is at risk. πŸš‘β€οΈ

We’re grateful for organizations and individuals who are willing to step into some of the most difficult challenges facing our community. Addiction impacts families, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods, and addressing it requires all of us working together. 🀝

Thank you, Christina, Charles, and Nicole, for taking the time to educate our club and for the work you do for the Jackson and Butts County community!

πŸ“– And don’t forget to check out our Little Free Libraries around the community!

🌊 Rotary Meeting β€” September 8, 2026

🎀 Today’s Speaker: Gordon Johnston

We were excited to welcome Gordon Johnston, a professor at Mercer University and an avid outdoorsman, as today’s guest speaker.

🌿 Gordon shared stories and experiences from his adventures along the Ocmulgee River, giving us a unique look at the history, beauty, and outdoor opportunities that our river and surrounding communities have to offer.

It was a great reminder of what a special natural resource we have right here in our own backyard. πŸ›ΆπŸŒ³

πŸ‘πŸ“ˆ This week, the Jackson-Butts County Rotary Club welcomed our very own Kim Freshwater of Century 21, Crowe Realty for an insightful look at the Butts County real estate market.
