⛪ 200 Years of Faith, Fellowship, and History in Jackson!
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, Jackson Presbyterian Church celebrated its 200th anniversary, marking two centuries of worship, service, and sharing the love of Christ in Jackson and Butts County. Approximately 125 people gathered to celebrate this remarkable milestone.
“The story of the church began during a significant period in the history of our area. In 1825, just one year before the church was organized, Chief William McIntosh signed the Treaty of Indian Springs, ceding nearly 5 million acres in Georgia and 3 million acres in Alabama to the United States in exchange for $200,000. The land had been Muscogee (Creek) homeland, and the treaty marked a major turning point in the history of Native peoples and the settlement of this region.
In 1826, the Rev. Remembrance Chamberlin organized a Presbyterian congregation in the young frontier town of Jackson with 23 charter members. The congregation selected two acres of land, one block north of the town square, on which to build its house of worship.” Note: The above message was paraphrased from opening remarks by Dr. Ed Hoard, Pastor.
The church's beautiful sanctuary, built in 1897, stands as a reminder of its enduring presence in the community. Through two centuries of weddings, funerals, Sunday worship, and countless acts of kindness, Jackson Presbyterian Church has remained an important part of the area's religious history.
The bicentennial celebration included special music, Scripture readings, recognition of special guests, and a message titled “I Will Build My Church,” based on Matthew 16:13–19. The congregation also gathered for a catered lunch and fellowship, honoring those who came before while looking toward the future.
The anniversary artwork was created by Scott Coleman, commemorating Jackson Presbyterian Church's 200 years of sharing the love of Christ.
The Butts County Historical Society congratulates Jackson Presbyterian Church on this extraordinary anniversary and celebrates the generations of members who have contributed to its rich history and lasting legacy in our community.
Two hundred years of history. Two hundred years of faithfulness. A legacy that continues.
