🚨 Grant Award Announcement 🚨

The Sardis Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce that we have once again been awarded a Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) grant to replace our aging UTV with a brand-new 6x6 UTV.

This is our third consecutive year receiving funding through the HSGP, and over the past three years, we have secured more than $80,000 through this grant program alone—all with zero local match and no cost to our taxpayers.

These grants allow us to continue improving our equipment, strengthening our emergency response capabilities, and better serving the citizens of Sardis and our surrounding communities.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support and confidence placed in our department. Thank you to everyone who has played a role in making these opportunities possible. Together, we are building a stronger, safer fire department for today and for the future. 🚒🇺🇸

🚒 ENGINE 9 UPDATE 🚒

The members of the Sardis Volunteer Fire Department are excited to share the final drawing for our new Pierce Engine 9, scheduled to arrive in late 2026.

Engine 9 was designed with firefighter safety and operational effectiveness in mind. Every feature was selected to help our firefighters work safer, faster, and more efficiently while continuing to place citizen safety first.

✅ Low 5’2” hosebed for safer hose deployment and loading
✅ Waterous 1,250 GPM side-mount pump
✅ Husky 3 Class A foam system with 20-gallon foam tank
✅ Air-pack seating for the crew
✅ Side-mounted ladders for safer, faster access
✅ Federal Q siren

This will be the first four-door pumper in department history and represents a major investment in the future of our department and the citizens we serve. This is part of our commitment to providing the best service possible to our community.

Take a look through the drawings and zoom in on the details. We look forward to placing Engine 9 in service in late 2026.

We are very proud of our Assistant Chief, Dr. Brian Boutwell, for speaking to the Executive Fire Officer class at the Fire Academy this past week. He is a tremendous asset to our department and continues to represent the Sardis Fire Department with professionalism, knowledge, and dedication.

His leadership, experience, and commitment to the fire service make a lasting impact not only on our members, but on fire service leaders across the state.

Congratulations, Dr. Boutwell — we are proud to have you as part of our command staff.

The Mississippi Executive Fire Officer Program, Session 2. These students worked diligently on their applied research projects, finalizing their research questions and refining their problem and purpose statements as they prepare to begin their research. They engaged in leadership discussions led by Instructor Supervisor Luke Smith on insights from Dick Winters, and Instructor Chief Matt Hinkle presented on the use of AI in research. They also heard from guest speakers Dr. Brian Boutwell, PhD from the University of Mississippi, Dr. Reed Abraham from the Mississippi Insurance Department, and Jesse Bowman of the Mississippi State Fire Academy, who led a session on APA formatting.
