It’s Fire Prevention Month, and we’ve been popping into schools around the county—sirens off, smiles on—to teach kids how to stay fire‑safe!

From “stop, drop, and roll” practice to spotting wildfire risks, these students have been absolute rockstars.

Huge thanks to our amazing teachers and the curious, energetic kids who make these visits so much fun. Together, we’re building safer habits (and maybe a few future firefighters!).

Check out our new video released today showcasing how AI-powered cameras positioned at three strategic locations across Teton County are strengthening our community’s wildfire preparedness, protection, and prevention efforts.

These cameras are already proving their value, having aided in the early detection of a wildfire in South Park over the weekend.

“Wildfires can develop quickly, especially in mountain communities like ours, where steep, remote terrain can make visibility challenging,” said Deputy Chief Raymond Lane. “Timely information saves precious minutes. These cameras provide another important tool for our emergency responders and provide the community with greater situational awareness.”

Friday's 9/11 Climb was a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and unity that define our first responders.

As participants climbed the equivalent of 110 stories, mirroring the steps of the World Trade Center, each carried ID badge of a first responder who served during the events of September 11, 2001, ensuring their names, stories, and bravery was remembered and honored with every step.

To everyone who joined us, volunteered, supported, or paused today to remember — thank you. Your presence honors the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the enduring spirit of service within our own community.

We will never forget.

09/11/2026

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken on 9/11 and the countless families whose lives were changed forever.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other first responders who ran toward the danger while others were running away. Many never made it home. Others carried the physical and emotional scars of that day for the rest of their lives.

We remember the ordinary people who showed extraordinary courage. The passengers, workers, rescuers, volunteers, and strangers who helped one another in the darkest of moments.

And we remember the families who lost someone they loved — not just today, but every day.

25 years later, the names remain. The stories remain. The sacrifice remains.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

On the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and hijacked Flight 93, Jackson Hole Emergency Responders are inviting residents and visitors to join them at two community events honoring the emergency responders who gave their lives on September 11, 2001, as well as those who worked tirelessly in the rescue and recovery efforts that followed.

“We’ve pledged to Never Forget, and we are committed to upholding that promise,” said Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Deputy Fire Chief Brian Coe.

This year’s memorial events begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, with the 9/11 Ceremony on Town Square. In the afternoon, the Snow King Hill Climb will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., beginning at the base of Snow King Mountain. Free water and 9/11 Snow King Hill Climb t-shirts will be available while supplies last, and the public is invited to enjoy a community barbecue at the base of Snow King during the event.

Congratulations to Sam Wasserman and Erika Voorhees for successfully completing their paramedic studies at Weber State University!

“Becoming a paramedic is one of the most demanding educational and professional commitments our members can undertake,” said Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Fire Chief Mike Moyer. “Sam and Erika demonstrated tremendous dedication throughout this process. Their willingness to make this investment in themselves ultimately represents an investment in the safety and well-being of our entire community.”

Restrictions have also been lifted for Teton County and the Town of Jackson. Please visit https://www.tetoncountywy.gov/617/Burning-Rules to understand what is and is not allowable where you reside. And remember, all fires on private lands need to be reported to dispatch by calling the non-emergency number: 307-733-2331

Teton Interagency Fire managers have lifted Stage 1 fire restrictions for Grand Teton National Park, the Bridger-Teton National Forest, and the National Elk Refuge. Recent precipitation, cooler temperatures, and higher relative humidities have lessened the threat of wildfire. All public land users are advised to remain vigilant and use caution when building and maintaining a campfire to prevent unwanted human-caused fires.

While Stage 1 fire restrictions have been lifted, in Grand Teton National Park campfires are only ever allowed in designated metal fire grates. Campfires are never allowed on the National Elk Refuge. In areas where campfires are allowed, it is illegal to leave them unattended or abandoned. So far this year, Teton Interagency personnel have extinguished 99 unattended and abandoned campfires. Unattended and abandoned campfires can quickly escalate into wildfires, and if your campfire sparks a wildfire, you can be held responsible for the cost of putting it out.

In recent weeks, Teton Interagency firefighters have promptly responded to and put out several lightning-caused fires. Based on these successful efforts and other factors, fire managers have determined it is appropriate to lift fire restrictions. These factors include the moisture content of fuels (how dry grasses, shrubs and trees are); projected weather conditions (including temperatures and possible wind events); the availability of firefighting resources nationwide; and the occurrence of human-caused fires.

How to prevent human-caused fires:
The safest option is to not build a campfire at all. Dress warmly and use layers instead of relying on a campfire for warmth. If you choose to have a campfire where it’s allowed, have a plan for putting it out before ever lighting it, and:
• Select your campfire location carefully, free from overhanging trees and clear of grass and brush. When in dispersed camping areas in the Forest, only use pre-existing campfire rings, do not create new rings.
• Keep your campfire small and under control.
• Campfires should be avoided on windy days.
• Never leave a campfire unattended or abandoned.
• Have a shovel and water bucket on hand.
• Use several gallons of water to fully extinguish your campfire.
• Drown, stir, feel and repeat until the ashes are cold to the touch.
• Break up charred logs and cover all remains with dirt.
