Let’s Go, Mississippi!!
What a meaningful way to celebrate Adult Education and Family Literacy Week!
This week in Washington, D.C., Ruby Lumpkin with Pearl River Community College, Jennifer Szarek with Hinds Community College, and I (Beth Naron Little) had the opportunity to meet with members of Mississippi’s congressional delegation staff to share the remarkable work taking place in adult education across our state. We also took a few minutes to run in the The Library of Congress and get a library card and see the Reading Room.
We highlighted student success stories that demonstrate the life-changing impact of adult education not only for individual students, but also for their families, employers, and communities.
We were also proud to share the Compass Pathways Series, a Pearl River Community College - Adult Education innovative workforce-centered bridge model that will soon launch. Through career exploration, occupational mapping, and hands-on industry experiences, Compass will help adult education students identify career pathways, build confidence, and prepare for workforce training and high-demand careers.
We are grateful for the opportunity to share Mississippi’s adult education story and celebrate the students, instructors, and programs creating brighter futures throughout our state.
It has been an incredible 2026 AEFL Week and I want to thank all of the adult education staff from across the state for all of the fantastic efforts you’ve displayed and organized this week to recognize our students and the impact of the work we are doing across our great state of Mississippi!
