🤕Ouch, that had to hurt!

This bison likely acquired this injury during a battle for female courtship against another male. The rut (or mating season) can get very violent, and it’s not uncommon for animals to limp away from fights with injuries. While this wound looks bad, we suspect this guy is only temporarily slowed down — wildlife is pretty resilient!

Today’s the day! 399 Forever’s beautiful new film, about the final year of Grizzly Bear 399’s life, is available for streaming on Amazon Prime! As wildlife guides, we spent years passionately educating visitors about 399 and sharing in the awe and wonder as we watched her live her life in this incredible ecosystem. We are honored to be featured in the film, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. It’s a beautiful work of art!

Film description: In the final year of her life, Grizzly 399, the world’s most famous bear, inspires a devoted community while fierce debates over conservation, coexistence, and the future of grizzly bears unfold around her. After raising 18 cubs, she became an international celebrity, drawing mile-long traffic jams through Grand Teton National Park. As her fame grew, so did the conflict over her future. Funny, inspiring, and heartbreaking, 399 Forever celebrates the extraordinary community she brought together.

They really are river puppies…

Does this remind anyone of their dog, particularly after they’ve gotten wet? 😂 A great spot by ETA Naturalist Steven Lubner, filmed from a distance using a SWAROVSKI OPTIK Outdoor spotting scope and an Ollin phone adapter.

You go girl!

Some people say it can’t be done. We are here to tell them they are wrong — bison, North America’s largest land mammal, can, in fact, jump fences.

More elk bugling content! We just can’t get enough of it!

ETA Naturalist Audrey fanjoy captured this bull elk staking his claim on a recent visit to Yellowstone’s Northern Range. Notice all the soil in his brow tines? That’s a result of thrashing at low-lying shrubs like sagebrush — a typical mating behavior!

Peekaboo! 👻

With the arrival of October, Spooky Season is officially here! And while this grizzly cub is FAR from spooky (more like adorable…), sometimes sightings like this can be reminiscent of ghostly encounters — quick and fleeting, leaving you questioning whether you really saw what you think you saw.

Our SWAROVSKI OPTIK Outdoor optics are so crisp and powerful that you won’t be left questioning your own eyes. Interested in seeing this for yourself? Book a tour with us today! Fall is one of the best seasons for wildlife sightings…

In honor of , we’re sharing an incredible wildlife sighting from ETA Naturalists Elk Raven Photography - Wildlife Photographer, who witnessed this on our very own public lands!

The elk rut, or mating season, is just one of many amazing natural wonders offered by our public lands. Grand Teton National Park — and all our National Parks, for that matter — is one example of America’s unique and deeply valued public lands system. We are honored to have the privilege to guide here and share the magic of this place — and our public lands system as a whole — with all of you. Happy National Public Lands Day!

🔊 on!

A bull elk bugles at sunrise. It's faint, so be sure to turn your volume up.

This is one of our favorite times of the year! The valley is absolutely filled with the mating calls of elk during the dawn and dusk hours. It sounds both eerie and gorgeous, and it is one of the signs that fall is nearly here. Have you ever heard this sound in person?

Grizzly Bear 610’s remaining cub is getting so big! While we unfortunately don’t know what happened to her other cub, and we mourn its loss, we are grateful to see that this little one is still alive and well!

The elk rut is ON! These two bulls were seen sparring on a recent tour. While mating battles between bulls tend to look more like this, they can escalate to be quite violent and full of brute force and strength. It’s rare for a bull to be gored by another bull’s antlers, but it DOES happen!
