πŸš’ MORE THAN FIRE & EMS

Did you know Licking Township Fire Company provides more than emergency fire and EMS responses?

Our department also works to help keep our community safe through:

πŸ”₯ Fire Prevention & Safety β€” Fire safety education, prevention efforts, and helping residents understand fire risks.

🏒 Fire Safety Inspections β€” Working with businesses and property owners to identify potential hazards and promote fire safety.

πŸš’ Community Risk Reduction β€” Helping identify and reduce risks before emergencies happen.

πŸ“š Training & Preparedness β€” Ongoing training to keep our personnel prepared to respond when our community needs us.

🀝 Mutual Aid β€” Assisting neighboring departments when they need additional resources, just as we rely on our neighbors when needed.

Our job isn’t just to respond when something goes wrong. It’s also to help prevent emergencies, prepare for them, and protect the people who live, work, and visit our community.

πŸš’ **LET’S TALK ABOUT THE FIRE LEVY: WHAT IS A MILL, AND HOW ARE YOUR TAXES CALCULATED?** 🏑

When we talk about a fire levy, it’s important to understand what you’re actually being taxed on.

πŸ”₯ **What is a mill?**

A *mill* is a unit used to calculate property taxes. In Ohio, 1 mill equals $1 in taxes for every $1,000 of your home’s assessed value.

🏠 **Are property taxes based on the actual value of your home?**

Not directly! In Ohio, property taxes are generally calculated using **35% of your home’s appraised market value**, not the full market value. This is called the *assessed value*.

Here’s an example for Licking Township:

If your home is worth $100,000:

β€’ Market value: $100,000
β€’ Assessed value (35%): $35,000
β€’ Cost per 1 mill: $35 per year
β€’ **Cost for the 4-mill fire levy: $140 per year, or about $11.67 per month**

That means the 4-mill fire levy would cost approximately $140 per year on a $100,000 home, before applicable tax credits or adjustments.

πŸš’ **Why does a fire levy matter?**
This levy is simply to increase daily staffing and make sure advanced care is available 24hours a day. Since 2015 our runs have increase by 40% and staffing our staffing hasn’t followed. Staffing is not just a Licking Twp problem it is problem in our region.

A fire levy is calculated based on the property's taxable assessed value and the levy rateβ€”not simply the full price your home could sell for.
