The Emergency Services Department consists of E-911 Communications, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Rescue Coordination.

The Department of Emergency Services was created to enhance emergency response, planning and recovery from major emergencies that may occur in Onslow County. Consolidated under one department is the E-911 Communications Center, Emergency Management Office, Emergency Medical Services, and the Fire Rescue Services. The Emergency Service Department coordinates with 9 Volunteer Rescue Squads, 20 Volunteer Fire Departments and several community emergency response teams such as the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). These agencies work together to provide the citizens of Onslow County with complete and unified emergency service during a major incident, weather emergency or other unforeseen threat to life and property.

🟡 WATCH = BE PREPARED
Tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Monitor weather alerts, review your emergency plan, and know where you’ll take shelter.

🔴 WARNING = TAKE SHELTER NOW
A tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar. If your location is in the warning area, immediately move to a basement or small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay away from windows.

Don’t wait to see a tornado before taking action.

Big Check, big upgrades. Big help to Bear Creek Fire Department! 🚒

The $55,000 in funding, secured through the 2026 Appropriations Act by Representative Wyatt Gable, will help the department purchase a new pump motor for its brush truck and contribute toward a boat better suited for shallow-water rescues.

Fire Captain Jim Lathrop explains how these funds will help strengthen the department’s ability to respond to emergencies in the community.

At 2:20 p.m. September 8th, Onslow County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 3700 block of Freedom Way in the Bear Creek Fire District.

Engine 203 arrived on scene and declared a working fire involving a motorhome. The crew immediately deployed an attack line and initiated an aggressive interior fire attack. With assistance from Swansboro Fire Squad 17 and Chief 1700, the fire was brought under control within 10 minutes of dispatch, preventing further extension to nearby exposures.

Automatic-aid companies from Swansboro Fire Department, Hubert Volunteer Fire Department, Western Carteret Fire & EMS, Camp Lejeune Fire & Emergency Services, and Onslow County EMS responded to support operations.

This incident highlights the importance of strong automatic-aid partnerships and the ability of neighboring agencies to work together seamlessly when seconds matter.
