As students settle into the new school year, it's a good time for families to talk about social media safety.

Remind students that posts, messages, photos, and videos shared online can have real-world consequences. Threats and concerning statements made as a "joke" can create fear, disrupt schools, and result in serious disciplinary or legal consequences.

Before you post, send, or share — stop and think.

Parents and guardians: staying involved in your child's online activity is an important part of keeping them safe.

🏈 FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS ARE BACK!

There’s nothing quite like Friday night football in Duval County — the lights, the bands, the rivalries, the school spirit, and our communities coming together to support their students.

As you head out to tonight’s games, the Duval County School Police Department reminds everyone to help us keep game night safe and enjoyable.

• Follow all school and stadium rules
• Be respectful of players, officials, staff, and fellow fans
• Keep aisles, entrances, and emergency access areas clear
• Students should have a safe plan for getting home after the game
• If you see something concerning, notify school staff or law enforcement

Our officers will be out supporting our schools and helping keep our campuses safe.

🏈 Play hard. Cheer loud. Stay safe.

Good luck to all of our student-athletes competing tonight!

Keeping our schools safe is a shared responsibility.

Students, parents, employees, and community members are encouraged to report concerning behavior, threats, weapons, or suspicious activity. What may seem insignificant could be an important piece of information.

Encourage your student to speak with a trusted adult, school administrator, or School Police Officer when something doesn't seem right.

See something. Say something. Help keep our schools safe.

Morning arrival and afternoon dismissal are two of the busiest times on our school campuses.

Parents and guardians can help keep everyone safe by:

• Following established traffic patterns and designated drop-off/pick-up areas
• Avoiding distractions while driving
• Never stopping in undesignated areas to allow students to exit a vehicle
• Watching carefully for students, buses, bicycles, and pedestrians
• Following the directions of school staff and law enforcement

A few extra minutes of patience can make a big difference in keeping our students safe.

The first weeks of school are an important time to re-establish safe routines.

As students, families, school buses, and employees return to their daily schedules, we remind everyone to stay alert in and around our schools. Slow down in school zones, watch carefully for students crossing roadways, and always obey the directions of crossing guards and law enforcement officers.

The Duval County School Police Department is committed to helping provide a safe and secure learning environment for every student and staff member throughout the school year.

Safety starts with all of us.

From puppy to protector. 🐾💙

We are incredibly proud of K9 Penny and her handler Officer Addeo for the outstanding work they do each day to help keep our schools safe. Penny has become an invaluable part of our department, and watching her grow into such an exceptional narcotics detection K9 has been amazing.

A special thank you to Smart Paws Resort & Training for trusting us with this incredible partner and for the kind words. We couldn't agree more—Penny is definitely kicking butt!

Keep up the great work, Penny! 🐕‍🦺💙👏
